Title: Kayaks Needed for Local Warriors April 11
Post by: islandson671 on February 19, 2015, 04:07:52 PM
WDFW is going to open Tanwax Lake on April 11th for Heroes On The Water before the Trout Opener on 4/25. They are also going to stock 2000 trout a few days before the event to make things a bit more interesting out there.

Having a lake fully stocked and opened for one day exclusively for Heroes On The Water is an awesome deal. We would like to get as many Participants on the water for this event. If you are one of our NWest Volunteers with spare kayaks and have not heard from me yet, YOU WILL... ;D

If you have never volunteered at one of our HOW events, WE NEED your help! We are looking for local kayak fisherman in Western WA with spare SOT Kayaks with PFDs and Paddles. But, if you would like to make the trek from Eastern WA or OR, you are more than welcome. We also need Fishing Guides to be on the water and help coach our warriors on the ins and outs of kayak fishing.

If you have a spare/s Sit On Top Kayaks and would like to come and help out, please send me an email at dino@northwestkayakanglers.com.

4.5 hour drive for me from Tillamook I don't think I can make that one.  Whats an out of state one day license or yearly license  cost in WA. ?

We have a group license that covers all volunteers and participants during events,  so it won't cost anything in that department.

No worries...4.5 hrs is a heck of a drive, but I'm sure Lingbanger would appreciate any help you could give at one of the HOW PDX events.

Not sure on a day license. But, when you come to one of our HOW events in WA you do not need a Fishing License. We have a Group License that is good for ALL Participants and Volunteers including family that is attending the event. It is good for Fishing (Salt and Fresh Water), Crabbing and Clamming.

I have a tandem and a minix you can borrow. But I'm not sure I have seat backs for them. I have my hobie paddle I could include but that is a paddle short. I may be able to help too... That is spring break so I may be engaged with the family out of town.

I'm going to try to make it but can't commit 100% yet I need to get the head gaskets replaced on TLW's Subaru Outback. We don't have a lot of mechanic shops close to us.

I thought NW but it might have been the general fund (got ahead of myself), I got an email back from a guy in TX, are you guys Portland or NW? I'll happily donate monthly and can specify whichever (or pm me your chapter's paypal and I can setup a recurring payment), such an amazing program I'd never heard of....

Lee

We are NW but either is great. We're all doing the same thing. But for the funds to get used by either chapter, the donation needs to be specified. Thanks so much for your support.

Would you be interested in coming out and being a fishing guide at one of our events as well?

I'd help any way I can but I don't have a SOT kayak, just a recreational tandem. But I guess I could bait hooks and find fish  ;D

As I have found from attending a few events help is always needed on the ground as well. And it's for a great group of people as well as with a great group of volunteers.

My trailer, revo, and tarpon, and available to lend, not counting the other HOW boats Steve plans on bringing. I'll chat with him later today and try and get an estimated boat count. We can also lend waders, tops, boots, etc.

Dino-
Is it safe to assume you need extra PFDs, paddles, tops, rods, nets, etc?

You guys take donations for prizes for a derby or anything during these events? Like rod/reels/tackle or something people can use long after the event? Would it be better to get 1 high end rod or 4 decent ones? Or a trip on a charter could be a cool prize. Just throwin it out there.

I noticed it says 'sit on top' kayaks.  I have 2 sit IN kayaks, PFD's Paddles.  Not sure if they are what you need though?

It will be a 120 mile each way trip for me -- but I'll try to make this happen and bring an extra Outback, waders, and tackle/poles as well. Maybe/probably I can donate some kind of "wooden prize " for the Warrior with the best fish.
What other gear will you need Dino ? Let people know and it'll happen.
