The Whiskey Gulch turn off is 16 miles from the pull off at Deep Creek.  With the sign, you can't miss it even if it's dark. Pretty steep road down to the beach though -- I won't venture that in the dark.  Seems like we've got about 6 kayaks planning to enter.  Anybody staying at the Anchor Inn? Pre-registration is by 6 pm Friday -- or in person at the auction.

What time is the auction?  I'm not sure I can make it.  I'll be down to fish with you guys, but if I don't get signed up....I don't get signed up.

It'll be fun no matter what.  Come on big butts.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

My wife and I stayed at the Anchor River Inn last year and they were still charging "winter rates".I think it was only $50 a night.Pretty sure kard did too.
The auction Friday night is a lot of fun.The camraderie of the people there, the auction itself, and the fact they were so amazed that kayaks would even dare to enter "their "tournament was a whole lot of fun.We took a lot of ribbing ,but it was all good natured. In fact,I beleive they were so surprised by our "ballsiness" that we gained a lot of respect that night.
Last year the auction started at 7:00 PM. The fishing ,or rather, the official start time of the derby is at 6:00 AM. Saturday morning. If you stay at the Inn..be aware they have a pretty nice bar there.but don't stay too late....Someone told me fishing with a hangover really sucks. :spittake:

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Haha. That's what I sort of recall about staying at the inn last year. Definitely laying off the bar this year! I will be racing down to make the auction Friday.  I'm not sure where in staying this year. I may need better accommodations this year. But finally starting to feel better. This bug I had has kicked my butt for three weeks. I can't believe it. But come hell or high water I'll be there!  Just got to avoid the moose on the way down!!!!

Thanks Mark and Lori. I should clarify the anchor Inn was a completely acceptable spot to crash before the derby...at least for a single fishing crazed guy that thinks a 2dr civic is a pretty dang place to crash as long as fishing is available!  Lol. Just wanted to clarify...
