I have been having fun sailing my 2011 Adventure with the Hobie sail kit. It cruises pretty fast 4-5ish mph with about 10-15mph winds. I use the daggerboard which helps a tremendous amount and have installed the furler kit. I didn't go with the full on Island conversion because of the space, weight and additional cost. I may at some point because sailing is just so fun! I'm going to try to do some salmon trolling via sail this summer.
However, the kayak does really heel in the strong gusts so in order to increase the safety factor I'm trying out the Ama sidekicks for some additional stability. The issue is the Ama mounts are slightly smaller than the mounts for the Akas. Hobie used to make a plate that bolts onto the existing threaded holes to allow for easy use of the Amas. Unfortunately they are nearly impossible to find as they has been discontinued. Therefore I reverse engineered them and got them machined in 316 SS. Just recieved the parts today and am looking forward to giving them a whirl.
I'm happy to give the model to anyone who needs this part so that they can get it made or machine it yourself if you have the inclination and equipment. Sadly I no longer have access to a CNC mill so I paid someone to do the machining for me.
