When putting away all your crabbing gear, don't forget you brought the remaining bait home, and don't forget where you stowed your bait for the trip home.  The front hatch of your kayak will not act as a freezer and preserve your bait for a week if you forget. DAMHIK  :icon_puke_r:    :BangHead:

Now, how do I get rid of the smell?

Diluted bleach should do the trick.

Whoa, Craig what's that scent you are using?

Next time you go crabbing you are going to be like the pied piper
I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

I used a little dish soap for now.  Hopefully it won't be too bad tomorrow.  At least now, at worst, it is a lemon scented salmon carcass.  I will try the diluted bleach if necessary Micah.  Thanks.  I forgot some bait in one of my coolers for about a month once, and I filled it with water and borax and it was like new.  That may be an option, as well.

Bleach will work for sure, I find Simple Green works too without the bleach smell.. But if its really bad, bleach may be the best option..

I forgot about the Simple Green. I have a big jug in the garage.  I will give it a shot tomorrow.

Oxyclean is gentler than bleach and really good on organic smells and stains. I usually just mix some up with some water.

Craig, after cleaning the area, spray it with one of the enzyme oder remover products that are used for pet urine. Natures Miracle come to mind. wiping with vinegar before applying will help. It will take a week or two, but will get all the smell out eventually!

Craig,  if you have residual stench after a week or two,  try using earth scented scent shield spray.  Hunters use it on clothing and gear.

It has triclosan in it which is designed to kill scent generating microbes.

I am not sure how it would work for salmon juice, but I used it on a jeep that I sold that was particularly rank from years of soggy dogs and whatever hitchiked in on them.
