October was a great month for me. It started out with hooking into a monster sturgeon while hover fishing in Bonneville Pool. It was a soft hit making me think it was a shaker, but once it realized it was hooked it launched itself out of the water about 5 ft in front of me and was about the size of my Outback. I then went on a short and fast sleigh-ride. It pulled me towards a boat and instead of lifting their down riggers they started to record the battle. At first I tangled with one guy who popped off his downrigger, we untangled our lines and at some point during the cluster fuck he hooked a salmon. Once free the sturgeon decided to dive straight down, snapping my salmon rod. With all control lost, I got tangled on the same boats down rigger. Needless to say, the sturgeon broke my leader at that point. I would have liked to fight it longer but with a broken medium weight salmon rod with a 20 lb leader it was a lost cause anyway.
The next day the fun really began. At 8 AM my wife and I went to OHSU and after a protracted struggle, Sam decided to join us.

I already brought him into my man cave and introduced home to all my fishing gear and kayaks. He had no idea what he was looking at, but he did not cry, which I am going to take as a good sign.

Congratulations, Nate!

Fantastic news, Nate! I'm sure it won't be long 'till he's out fishing with his Dad...if he's anything like my son, he'll eventually be outfishing his dad.

Welp, your life is over. Time to sell your toys and buy a minivan (like Craig).
Just teasing you brother. Congratulations! You have a lot of fun ahead of you. There's nothing like experiencing things for the 1st time again thru your childs eyes.

Mini-vans are a sign of male virility. Also, for some reason you don't get speeding tickets in them. They just don't look fast.
Congrats again Nate!

Salmon beware! Another Olkin is on his way! Welcome Sam and congrats to you and Nina.

What a good looking kid!
When you showed him around I'm sure he was just in awe of the cool dad he lucked into! But there will be a day when he has to chose for himself between the Spider-Man pole or the Barbie. Please raise him well enough to know...

Congratulations! Sam's one good-looking kid.

Thanks guys. I am already plotting how to get him on the water during springer season.

I will love him either way. Remember his dad has no problems sporting a tiara and coordinating jigs to match his princess pole.

Congratulations! And everyone knows... Barbie catches more fish!
