One of the benifits of fishing Brownlee Reservoir is the added fun of getting to catch big carp even fly fishing. I caught this one casting a mini leech pattern toward shore and stripping it in slowly. I was using a 5wt rod with 4lb test leader. It took about 15 minutes to get it into my trout sized net (not a very good fit).
It was a great weekend of fishing at Brownlee.

Great fishing with you James. Watching you get towed around by that carp was entertaining and made the kids laugh. Also, congrats on the belt buckle.
-
You killed it with that bug wand this weekend James! Bravo!

Nice fish James! That belt buckle couldn't have gone to a better person. It was good seeing you out on the water.

That's awesome! Congrats!

I've always wondered how to do that with a fly rod, now I know - fish with James!
Nice one - and you won the belt buckle, too? Way to represent the bug-wanders! Great job!

Very cool! While out prefishing for the BBB we saw a bunch of carp and my attempts at catching one with my bass tackle was simply ignored by the carp. Pretty cool though seeing so many of them right near the surface.

VERY impressive.
I have attempted but have only known failure with the fly rod. It seems well documented how difficult this can be. I did my homework and had moments surrounded by giant golden beasts and still couldn't produce.
Your photo is inspiring.
Thank you for reporting.

Nice work James! Good fishing with you and thanks for sharing your precision cut perch meat. It landed me a nice catfish. Maybe you could loan me that belt buckle sometime. :)

OK first of all, the carp on the fly part is very inspiring to me personally because this is one of my goals - awesome!
But am I picking this up right, that you guys let James win ANOTHER tournament? Oh geez! The dude's going to really have a big head now!
;D Just kidding of course, James is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. CONGRATS, Nobaddays!

Way to go James! That picture brought back lots of fond memories of chasing and landing carp on the fly. And is it my understanding you "WON" with your fly rod to, too boot? Definitively most impressive!

Thanks for all the nice comments. It was a great tournament.

I caught a lot of fish with my fly pole, but not all. My catfish was with bait. I had a good crappie with a fly, but caught a little bigger one on a lure. My smallmouth and bluegill were on the fly.

We are going to need to see a photo of you out on the town with your new buckle

Did you eat the carp?

Did you eat the carp?
No, their numbers were hurting, so I thought it would be best to catch and release.
