Title: (Report) Saturday the 23rd Tillamook Bay
Post by: Mojo Jojo on September 21, 2017, 08:22:26 AM
Rumor has it that a couple of HOW guys that aren't hitting Town Lake because nobody signed up will likely be hitting the Tillamook Bay around 0830ish and trolling for an unspecified type of fish that could rhyme with slamming ?! But that's just a rumor remember!

If it was just a little bit closer I'd join you. Unfortunately I'm limited on time Saturday, so I'll have to fish a little closer

We'll likely be off the water between noon and one.

Wish I could join you but gashed the back of my heal to the bone last week and it is finally healing. It was recommended I get stitches, probably should have.

Phone charger issues and kicking myself in the azz has delayed my report. But read on if you want to hear a sad heartbreaking story about a kayak fisherman and his €%#~?¥% day. If not go catch a damn fish.

Met Cosmo at the shop we’re storing the yaks and gear in for $36 a month around 0700. Lugged 6 boats up the steep narrow attic stairs to the loft, my son and I already lugged the other two and gear up on Friday. Dropped the HOW trailer at The Old Mill and I hooked up my trailer and we headed over to the launch behind the o’l fish cleaning station. Got geared up and Cosmo gave me some pre cut brined hearing. Launched about 0800 and started trolling infront of the comerciall docks as we headed to the Ghost Hole. Two red Hobies were headed back in as we were passing Hobson Point with one on board, lucky guys (not sure who they were) or if there on here. Made several passes and heard about maybe 5 caught all morning. Decided to head back in around 1000 as we were passing Hobson Point I was telling Cosmo about a couple of times I hooked up just past bankie reach as my pole starts to buckle, since it was in my hand I tucked it under my arm tight and accelerated till it was good and set. The damn fish started swimming at me as I slowed so I had to hit the throttle again. Pulled my net as Cosmo was coming in net in hand to assist when the damn salmon tried to swim in my net from behind so I tucked it and rotated it around from between my yak and him as he makes a hard turn out and unfortunately for my azz the trailing Hook got my net. With one quick head shake my salmon flipped us the fin and swam off leaving me heartbroken and cursing like a sailor, or kayak fisherman that lost a nice fish. No pictures but I do got a credible witness that can tell ya about what size it was. I lost it so I say it was a jack that way I feel better %^#<>€£ not really but it sounded good.
Bites not hot yet but it’s improving daily from the reports I get second or fifth hand. Hopefully I can get redemption soon. Thanks for joining and for the bait Cosmo even though I stunk that one up bad I had fun.

Thanks for sharing Mojo, sorry to hear about the heartbreak!

The forecast looks nice this week, are you interested in going out for some redemption Weds, Thurs, or Friday?

Sorry to hear about the lost fish Mojo.

I couldn't make it on Saturday (spent the day paining walls...) but fished TB today.

A brief report: I put the kayak in the water around 8 and started heading for the Ghost Hole. On my way towards the HG (and still ways before Hobsonville Point) my pole suddenly started dancing violently. Unfortunately the fish did not fully take the bait and was gone before i could set the hook. Only five minutes into fishing this was an encouraging start of the day. When arriving at the GH is saw a guy rinsing off a salmon on the side of his boat. So another encouraging sign! Unfortunately that is where it ALL ended >:(. I didn't see a single fish caught in the next 2.5 hours. Approximately 20 boats out there (i was the only one in a kayak). Off the water shortly 11 am. A very nice morning though, with almost no wind and plenty of sunshine.

Unless work prohibits I will be out again on Wednesday and Thursday.

Let’s do this demo-cratic-ally, I’m closest and say since high tide is 0813 and sunrise is 0710 let’s shoot for pushing off around 0700, catch the last 30-45 min. of inbound tide and fish as long as we are able to peddle or paddle. What say y’all?

Sounds good to me.
