HOW - OR - 8/15 @ Estacada Timber Park - 09:00 - Volunteers

Well, we're doing something new for this next one. We usually make our own fun, or a shop or generous individual will chip in on the day. This time we are going right to the source my friends. 

We are joining a local O.N.G. unit on their "Family Fun Day."

The Timber Park has a nice non-motorized launch and we'll just set up shop and let people cycle through.

Their folks start showing up at 10:00. So please plan on being up in Estacada by 09:00.

Directions: Timber Park is located on the Clackamas River, 30 miles southeast of Portland. Take Highway 224, go one mile west of Estacada, then follow the signs.

If you are still reading this I have something to add. We can't say who our dance partners for these events are specifically. But we know we have more than a few people here on the board that have served the country in and revolving around the work these men and women do. Furthermore, their service is one of the many, but a paramount reason that sets apart our brave fighting forces from the many gun toting mobs around the planet that label themselves an army.

Here's what the Major General had to say about this outfit during the decommissioning ceremony:

“Nothing in the Army works without maintenance, it wouldn’t run without maintenance, we’d be totally crippled without maintenance, and we thank you for everything that you do for us.”

Come on out and help put these folks on some fish!

It's going to be a big crowd, how many want to fish? Who knows?  If you have an extra kayak this might be a good day to bring it.

We usually do lunch for the participants, but I'm pretty sure that they have their own food thing covered. So we'll just fix lunch for volunteers. I will take requests for the menu according to the HOW by-laws, eg. no lobster, steak etc.

Taking a break and sitting down together is an important part of the day. I just don't want to be an imposition on the food deal because we kind of invited ourselves to their party. It was very nice of them to include us, and it is very nice of our volunteers to turn out. So I'll whip up whatever you volunteer folks would like.

FYI - We have been expanding the HOW Oregon food service capabilities. We recently received a killer donation from Camp Chef of a 3 burner stove and a Pro Series griddle that covers the entire cooking surface of the stove! 

I also picked up a big time aluminum guide style kitchen box, so we can get that crap out of bins and set up a real camp.  Hopefully we can get some overnight trips going next year.

Anthony - I was hoping to help out, however...  We move Ben down to Monterey next week, and I'd promised him one last shot at a fall salmon.  Though the tide timing isn't great, it looks like Saturday will be our last shot - if that falls through, I will get over to Estacada to help out.

Man, what a great day on the water! Many thanks to our volunteers who came out and helped make this day a big success. We were a little short on volunteers but Bryan (willbd), Dennis, and Derek  really stepped up to make sure things went smoothly. Lastly big thanks to Anthony for organizing everything, working his ass off and lastly cooking the volunteers a feast at the end of the day! You're doing good work Mr. Ling Banger!

Yes! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers. Too bad so many others chose to chase salmon today. What we got a taste of is better than anything I have ever put in my mouth. #HOWNATION
