Looking at the tide book and the regs.....next weekend is the last good tide prior to the closing of the special area for kings around deep
Creek.  I'm not too concerned about kings, but would it be worth a try for butts?  Anything after next weekend will either be farther out or farther down the beach....what's the consensus on this thought?

Kenai. Not knowing your area that well I have only one suggestion. Check with your local yakkers to gain a consensus. That should give you the proper info to base your decision. best of luck if you do go and be safe.

Never crazy if you can do it safely.

My suggestion would be to try out of Homer. The spit shelters you even on the west side of the spit. and you don't need to worry about currents.

I know thy been catching ping pong paddles and rockfish I think south of the spit but that's long ways. I'd consider launching by the condos on the west side of the spit towards the end and take a look.  I think other than cod, the fish you are most likely to hook up with is a king!  With the derby moving up, everybody is keeping the intel close to the vest.

If the weather is decent, there will be boats fishing the derby.  Not sure if thy will be the far up by deep creek.  I'm guessing you'd be alone. If you have confidence and experience then go for it.  Can you even access Deep Creek with all the snow?

If you go, let us know the conditions, fish o no fish!  Be safe.

So, I didn't end up going down to Deep Creek this weekend.  I did find some open water though.

I learned a new water entry technique I shall call the Otter.  Snowy bank slide into the open water without getting wet.

No fish, but it was fun getting out.  Come on summer

Just don't forget to close your relief zipper!  As polepole what that's like.

I like the ride. Any photos of the water entry?

Where did you go? Looks like kenai river. Now I know what my outback will look like loaded up on a 4 wheeler. We got the same color, I also have that exact cart. How do you like the cart?

That was on the lower Kenai.  Slow fishing but fun.  The cart works great as long as your tires are aired up

+1 on the needing air in them tires.  The last time I tried to pull my revo behind me with one low tire I got a serious work out!

Kenai_guy  I love your setup!   8)

Thanks.   I was thinking about selling it, but then I remembered that I can go anywhere and with my outback on the back.  Looks like this will be my beach/snow launching setup.  Put a snow plow on it and I'll do my driveway too

NICE!  It won't be long.  I am no where near ready.  But a few factors are out of my control.  My hope is I can be set up for the shrimp opener in Whittier April 15th.  That might be pushing it.

River looks great!  So different than in July!  Way to get out early!  ENVIOUS!
