Just wanted to drop a thread to all you "Last Frontiersmen/women" to compliment you on the amazing backyard you all have to play in.  Just got back bout a week ago from spending almost 3 weeks up there, and wow!  I was blown away by the expanse of wilderness that is Alaska.  I could spend a lifetime exploring and never see the same place twice.  My view was from the water, as I was on a tugboat most of the time, and there was never any shortage of panoramas.
I flew into Anchorage, then from Anchorage to Homer, where I met up with the boat, as I was a replacement for a guy who got injured. We then sailed from Homer to Port Graham, where we met up with our tow, an oil rig.  Us and two other tugs towed the rig from Port Graham to its drill site in Cook Inlet, near the town of Nikiski.  From there we headed back to Homer for a few days to do maintenance and resupply. After seeing all that Homer had to offer(including the apparently world famous Salty Dawg Saloon), we started our journey home.  Not long after we had left, a mechanical failure forced us to limp into Seward, where we spent a few days doing repairs, then headed on our way again.
We took the inside passage home, and that was definitely the highlight of the voyage.  A huge octopus, a pod of orcas, pods of porpoises feet from the boat, numerous breaching whales, moose, mountain goats, dall sheep, and countless waterfalls were among the sights that greeted us.  I'll definitely be headed back to have some fun when i get the chance.  I don't see any shortage of things to do during the thawed out months! - Anthony

I'm not going to see a pair of your bloomers hanging from the rafters at the Salty Dawg, am I?

Glad you had a chance to see some of this country. Still takes my breath away after 30 years of exploring.  We Alaskans are grateful for our surroundings, and like to share with like-minded souls. When you return to the area, let us know so we can show you some hospitality (when you're not working, or hanging out at the Dawg).

 Definitely not, however I did sign & pin up a George Washington on the wall of fame.

Will do!
