if this forecast holds, Friday April29 looks like a go day for me out of Sunset Bay, hopefully find some big lingcod to play with near Simpson Reef.
'soft' high tide at 12:30pm, light winds and sunny... ;D

Looking pretty nice

launching about 7:30am Friday at Sunset Bay as planned.
decided to get my legs warmed up today at the submerged jetty, nine crabs and a beauty of a teal lingcod, just under 30", that tried several times to get back into the submerged rocks after I hooked him drifting across the top.

I'm having a good laugh at this guy, back home and on his way to the 'wet sauna', he picked a fight with a measuring stick, "I want a do-over!"

the wind exceeded expectations and turned Friday down here into a greasy day. It added to the swell and chopped everything up. But mostly clear skies, so there was that.
I did get in about 20 minutes trolling for salmon, then headed for the Simpson Reef and turned the day into a win. The fish were all 'halves': 14.5", 18.5", 23.5", and 26.5". Didn't want jigs today, herring yes and the lings tossed up baby octopus.

Nice work Roger! I saw there was a lil window of opportunity of here this morning too, but I had to work.
I dig the Blue x2 8).

thanks Chris,
thinking about it, that's a 2-day hat trick of teal lings which any ocean fisherman is going to love. busy processing/cooking weekend for me, especially if there's a limit of razor clams to be found early tomorrow.
-
Good job, roger. It eventually rained yesterday, so you beat that, too.
-
Those might be the brightest blue Lingcod I have ever seen! Very nicely done!

no rain at Sunset Bay Friday was the best, then rained all night here which had me consider sleeping in.
nah, I was on the beach in the dark, now it's time to cook my famous (in my family) "Berkeley Cioppino"...and take a nap after a cold IPA...
