Ling Banger and Craig. You guys crack me up. I'm ready to fish and share a few cold ones with you guys and the rest of the crew. I'm in this year and just bought a new tent to house my crew, Yakchik and Cody. Can't wait!!!
LFMAO??? Help me out Dino.Laughing My F@#kin Ass Off..O:-)
Craig, that needs to be printed and saved for proper wall decoration.
That totally rocks!
Craig. I'd be honored if you spent 2 hrs superimposing my noodle into that pic. Just make sure you put hair on my legs and pits.
Just reserved a tent site today at Chinook Bend. Hope to come down the 13th if i can get that day off too. Otherwise, Wed nite. Should be a blast.
I just found out that I have to be in Calgary that week.Brutal! When do you fly back?
Can you guys do it the next week instead? :'(
I have to drive. It's a tradeshow and I have to take my demo..
I won't get back till late Saturday.
That's too bad, it sounds like fun.
Sorry, Lingbanger.

What is this OREGON INVASIVE SPECIES PERMIT?
A couple of questions, What is this OREGON INVASIVE SPECIES PERMIT?
Will my whistle serve as a signalling device?
Do waders and a dry top qualify as appropriate immersion wear?Yes.
Will my whistle serve as a signalling device?
Are these sort of questions addressed elsewhere?
I was looking for airhorns but all I can find are the larger ones. where do you all find the smaller sized ones?

I've seen them at Bi Mart, Dicks, & Wallmart.
A mouth air horn? Is that like a vuvuzela?
Sorry 'bout the delays!
I should have a preliminary prize list up this evening and the sign-up button will be up as soon as polepole can get around to it. I'll check on the camping cost for this year.

A little birdie told me that Big Hammer will be providing samples to all contestants before we paddle out..... If it's a load like last year, you'll make back a big chunck of your entry fee right there. ;D
Gotta say though, it was worth their investment. I and many others have since bought up all we can find.

Team Loose Screws from NCKA is honored to be attending this years's ORC. At least three of us, Fish 'n Brew, Hobiedave and Sailfish are coming up for the event.Right on guys! Stoked to see some of the NCKA crew make the ORC for the second year in a row!

Is there a final deadline to enter? I won't know until 6/10 if I can make it.
Nice work Mark.
Has anyone invited the NCKA guys? It would probably be the neighborly thing to do after their GS6 thread.

Nice work Mark.Insayn, Yaksurf, PNW, Rol, Br0wnthund3r and I extended verbal invites to as many of the guys we met at GS6. But a formal invite should be posted on NCKA.

It'll be nice seeing you again Zee. Maybe we'll spend a day hunting the BIG Sturgeon up there. Are you available to "guide" us? 0:)Likewise! I'll most likely burn all my free time but depending how long you stay there's lots of fishing options!

Speaking of the morning of the contest, what does the parking situation look like at the Bay? I will find out soon, but would like to think about if I have to lug my PA more than a little the morning of the tourney. Is there a procedure set for all of us offloading and preparing our yaks at the same time for a set launch time?
Thanks.
There is also an honor system launch fee station right at the top of the ramp. I can't remember if it was $3 or $5 bucks.
Please toss some bills in to help keep the launch open and operational for our enjoyment.
We use the facilities, launch, parking etc... so we are all obligated to contribute not just the power boaters.
Just for fun, we could put our own individual contributions into envelopes with Kayaker written on the envelope to really show the great folks down there that we
are legit anglers and do contribute. 8)

Looks like I'm officially making the trip up! Woohoo!
I'd like to extend my normal offer. Are you new to the kayak fishing or new to the salt? Well, have I got a deal for you! ::) I'm offering to take you out and teach you how to win a tournament, errr ... teach you some tips and tricks on how to safely and effectively approach fishing in the salt. This offer is good for 2 people. You must supply your own kayak and wear clothing appropriate for immersion (wetsuit or drysuit). No gear? No worry, I can/will supply fishing gear if needed.
See you all soon!

This will be my first time on the salt and will take you up on your generous offer. I have the gear including radio and need to learn fishing in the ocean.

I've been out in the salt a few times, but still trying to figure it all out. Have most of the gear, but might need some jigs, etc. If it's OK with you I'd like to take that second slot. If you'd rather save it for someone even newer that's fine.

I recommend eating a ton of greasy food and staying up late pounding the beers the night before, then not have any breakfast and skip the sea sick meds. Gives us all something to chuckle at and the seagulls always appreciate a free rainbow yawn buffet. Flat forecasts are boring >:D
Also, drink at least 3 red bulls. It really helps keep things down.
Is it too late to register? And ya'll have a schedule of things?
This would be the first time for me in the salt. So I'd prolly need to follow one of you fine lads out there :)

Do you have to check all of your fish in at one time or can you check some in and go back out? The reason I'm asking is, the 16th is a backup all depth halibut day and there is plenty of quota left. You can't retain any ground fish with a halibut on board on all depth days. It would be kind of cool to target near shore butts first, check in the fish, then go back out and pick up a limit of rockfish.
Found this: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/finfish/halibut/seasonmaps/2012.pdf (http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/finfish/halibut/seasonmaps/2012.pdf)
Interesting info and good to know. I did not know I may have a chance at getting one of these on this trip :)
Would a butt or salmon be a valid fish for the tournament? It is the rockfish classic...

We talked about this at one point but can't remember what was decided. I think there was talk during that discussion of doing something like a bonus for salmon. Judges??
Thanks for the response.....One more stupid question....Where does everyone park at the launch? I've seen tickets left on windows for cars and trucks that park in the trailer spots when I took my boat out tuna fishing. Granted, this was 4 years ago, but is there some special arrangement? The parking lot can get crowded on a fishable all depth halibut day.
What's the total number so far, 30 plus?
I can't commit until Sunday evening after my last tennis league match. We win and I'm out. We lose and I'm in.

It was decided years ago that only rockfish, lingcod, cabezon and greenling would count towards points.
Dang I was hoping to target some Halibut.

don't beat me up to much but I was wondering.
I didn't notice until a couple days ago that all the talk about immersion wear was is either a dry suit, wet suit, or waders with dry top.
I have fish the Puget Sound, Hubock, and Ilwaco with Chest waders(with wader belt) and rain top. The question is for ORC which I have already signed up and paid for will I need to find a dry top or dry suit to comply with the rules or will my set up work?

I have a size large semi dry-top (neoprene gasket in the neck, latex in the sleeves) that I will bring if you don't have one by then. It may stink like sturgeon slime and quality craft beer, though. For some reason those two get mixed a lot on the Willamette. If you do look for one remember, a paddle jacket is NOT the same as a dry-top. The least expensive option I have found is a close-out via Next Adventure in PDX. They have this one (only up to size large) for $99. I have never used it, so I can't speak to its comfort or quality.

Thank you everyone for your generous offers to let me borrow the immersion gear unfortunately I don't think I will fit any of them. I have done some research and it looks like I will need a XXL dry suit as I am 6'5" 270lbs. I would guess a XL dry top may work not sure though until I try it on. Unless anyone out there as any XXL stuff that would be so generous to let me borrow it for the tournament. I think I will have to go with a rental place I found that may have a XXL dry suit for $40 for 2-4 days so I may just do that for the tournament (crossing my fingers that they have something for me).
Again thanks to everyone that offered to help me out

We could just make it a requirement to check in at the weigh station, whether you have fish or not, so your number can be checked off.

I haven't seen this but --will any NWKA T-shirts be available this weekend at ORC ?
How about other "bling" we might need to know about ?
Is there an official prize list posted somewhere too ? I've looked all over and haven't seen it yet........
Im already camped at chinook bend. I hope somebody will join me soon.Hit the water! We'll be there tomorrow hopefully by noon.
Just found out I can make it to ORC! Now just got a few logistic details to work out...lodging, food, tackle, registration, transportation. You know, minor stuff like that.Nice!
Hope the rules committee won't DQ the IslandHoppa for using this safety flag as a sail:

Well yeah, I been checking every half hour lol. Marie is pretty stoked for her first tournament in nice conditions.
MSW is calling for 3.5 increasing to 4 by noon, but NOAA is calling for 3ft, and they usually overestimate.

I MAY be out there Thursday (my only day off till after ORC). I haven't used my new fishfinder yet and want to try it out (learn it). Since I do NOT like to be out there alone, you may see me paddling in close proximity. I'll probably plan on launching after 8am and only be out for a few hours. My boat is a blue Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game. Old white Toyota 4runner. I live a few blocks from the harbor so I just stuff it in the back and hang on to the front handle. :laugh:Robert, see the pre fish thread. There will be a decent group thurs morning.

I know I've asked this question before, but I can't find the answer...
Getting to Depoe Bay from the North, looks like there are 3 routes...mcminnville, salem and corvallis. Which is recommended?

Has the group established an event VHF channel? Maybe two? Perhaps 69 and maybe one other?
The USCG Auxiliary will have Vessel Examiners at the Depoe Bay Boat Ramp this coming Saturday. We will have one or two VEs at the ramp at 0530 for anyone wanting a Vessel Safety Check on their way out, and 4 or 5 VEs at the ramp from about 1330 to conduct VSCs on kayaks returning. We may also have one VE visiting Chinook Bend on Thursday PM and Friday AM for anyone wanting a VSC prior to Saturday. Larry Cox, Flotilla Commander, Flotilla 53, Depoe Bay, Oregon
IME, they can get a lil pushy about VE. It's volunteer, you do not need to do it.
Word up. 'Nuff respect due!IME, they can get a lil pushy about VE. It's volunteer, you do not need to do it.
The Coast Guard are our friends folks. (even the auxiliary) As stated, you do not have to get examined but it you're following the ORC rules, you'll have no problem passing.
Biggest reason I can see for saying no is; It's a contest and time is of the essence.

Found out Tuesday that I'm not gonna be making it to this years ORC :'( I crewed up yesterday and will be gone until Wednesday. I'll be on the water, just not where I was hoping. Good luck to all, hope you guys all have a great time! Be safe & take lots of pictures, as I'll be living vicariously through them until I get off the boat

I was thinking the same thing. Everyone will be wore out by Saturday, heck even a paddle kayaker might have a chance at winning >:D
