Sad news the Kayak Shed in Hood River is burning right now....very hot fire and HR Fire Dept trying to keep fire from spreading to adjacent structures.
Its very hot as you can imagine due to all the petrochemical products housed in the building that is more than 117 years old.
So sad for John Hart and his business  :(

Just heard about this. Horrible!

This link  http://historichoodriver.com/index.php?showimage=1736      posted by Arthur Babitz, who is the ex-mayor of Hood River and is a history buff,  has been digitizing old photographs for the Hod River Historical Society.

The loss of Kayak Shed is truly tragic. I hope that John Hart can quickly recover and Kayak Shed come back even stronger.

Seriously devastating! It was all over facebook this morning and it made me sick to my stomach. I am so glad that no one was hurt in the fire too.

Tragedy... That was such a quaint place to visit. If you have ever been down stairs to the "garage" that was under the store, it was packed full with literally hundreds of kayaks. Most of them still wrapped from the manufacturer. I can only imagine a fire from all that plastic, and old heavy beam construction wood. Wow. Sad day. Glad everyone is ok though.
Better to keep ones mouth shut and presumed a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Very sad, can't adequately put my feelings into words.  Jon and the guys have been in my thoughts all day.  Great crew at the Shed and Jon is a special individual.  Sucks when terrible things happen to good people.

I was truly saddened when I saw this had happened. John and the folks at the Shed have been great supporters of the kayak fishing community, HOW, and the ORC (as well as other events).  I hope they can get back up and running soon.

I hope they get back up and running again soon too.  One of these days I'll be ready to shift to pedal power and the Kayak Shed was always a place I wanted to buy it from.  They've been great supporters of the site, ORC, and others.  Best of luck in getting insurance money to cover all losses.

Any word yet on cause?  Probably too soon for much news in that regard.

Maybe we could pout together a charity tournament to help them out? With as much as they have given NWKA and HOW over the years it would be nicebto give back to them. Just a thought.

Word around town is it was homeless people living below the shop. Don't give it much credibility.

Really sad to hear.  Just saw the TV news.  Looks totaled.  Bought my 2017 Outback from them in April.  Great people!  Hope they can recover from this disaster.
