Is anyone aware of a single rod holder that works with fly, spin, and casting set-up?

Thanks,
Jay

The Scotty baitcaster model that came with my Hobie kind of works for them all... the but of a fly rod will just barely fit under the bottom part of the holder, and the rubber strap holds it in (and gives security that it won't be pulled into the lake).

It works great for spinning tackle and baitcaster, though with a thicker butt on a large salmon/sturgeon rod it is a little tight.

Not sure there is a one size fits all rod holder, but like 3wt says, some can be made to work (although not perfect).

Here's a pic of Scotty's lineup.

And a table of the sizing.  The names in column 1 top to bottom are the same as in the picture left to right.

Scotty Baitcaster

Anyone know of a source for just buying the actual rod holder, and not the holder bundled with a base?

Nope.  And I don't see it listed as a separate item in their catalog.  BTW, Scotty also has a new rod holder out this year called the ORCA.  It's a quick release type of holder.

Is the base the same for all? If so, I could use the fly rod holder and a spin/casting rod holder interchangeably.

Since there appear to be many choices, which rod holder would you suggest to handle both spinning and casting rods. I used the rear flush mounts today at Hagg Lake and now my neck needs some TLC... :P

edit: Does anyone have a recommended source to purchase from? sponsors? mom and pops? kayak friendlies?

I use the powerlock and it covers everything, even when I do the occasional fly fishing.  Well, check that, I have a 5 weight that doesn't fit the powerlock very well, so I have a fly rod holder for that.  I have some larger rods that do not fit in the baitcaster at all.

Your average fishing store should carry most of these. BUT, wouldn't you like to support our kayak fishing community? If so check out Hook1 http://www.kayakfishinggear.com Great people, support, service, what can I say, I wish they were here in Wa! ;D

Well I can't say enough about Outdoor Play's service. I ordered my 2 rod holders yesterday around noon and they showed up at my doorstep today around 1:30. Now I just need to pick up some Goop and SS hardware to install a base tomorrow. Then I'll be ready for some blind fishing for the big boys and girls.

I got two of the Scotty's baitcaster holders with my Necky yak. I didn't like the way that my medium and light spinners fit, so I made a sleeve out of inch and a quarter PVC pipe that fits inside and has a slot on the bottom side for my spinning reel. I tried it out on the lake, and it seems to be working quite well. I can post pictures if anybody is interested.
