Work is going to keep me pinned down on Saturday, but let's figure out a way to get you bait. We are cutting a ton of chum right now and it should make some primo crab bait.

I can't wait unitl it opens on Saturday in Crescent City. Carpe diem.

We'll use small jig heads and curly tails and gulp swimming mullets. You'll need small spinning tackle. I have a bunch of rods that will be rigged and ready to go for participants.

Normally Yes, but because we are having a HOW event we usually are not bothered by the MPs.

Will there be a group fishing license or do I need to get my crab endorsement?
-
Oh and this is on JbLM do we need to have a pass to get on post or is that outside the gates. Sorry not familiar with JBLM
-
No pass is needed to get to the fishing area as this is not a guarded portion of the post. Like Islandson was saying, you should be good because you are part of the group for HOW.. Usually you have to have a DOD sticker to be in the area (solo point)..

Thanks again for the bait Fungunnin! I'll try to show up earlier next time!

So excited for tomorrow! Thank you everyone for being so helpful. Can't wait to learn more about fishing. Hopefully by next spring I will learn enough and accumulate enough gear to be a helpful volunteer! Thanks Anthony!!

We had a great turnout to the winter crab fest on an awesome day for it. We were lucky enough to catch a break in the weather and all 16 of us (7 participants and 9 volunteers) were able to successfully have a blast crabbing and flounder jigging at Solo Point. We dropped a few large crab pots and a bunch of Crabhawks, as a side note if you’re looking for a great time kayak crabbing there is no better way to go than using those Crabhawks, 5 or 6 put down on some floats make for some fast action and quick limits. We crabbed and fished to around noon, the participants were having such a good time they didn’t want to come in, but the smell of Dino steaming up the crab soon convinced them otherwise and we all sat down to enjoy the feast. Around 1400 the participants packed up and headed out fat happy and full of crab, we finished cleaning up and left soon after. Some of the pictures are below, Like the HOW-NW Chapter Facebook page and check out the rest.

The trick with the CrabHawks is you gotta check them every 10 minutes or the starfish will be all over it. Also, don't drop the starfish right back where you are dropping the CrabHawk.

Here's the only pic I took that day. It's Theshoeman with a small greenling.
-
I only took one pic too. Diggs with the huge dungee.
That dungee was from ravdakots pot ;)

Looks like an awesome event. It's not easy getting the weather and tides to cooperate like that, someday you'll have to share your secret Dino. 😃

The pic with the potatoes and corn on the cob. I've never done that, but have seen it before. Is there a secret recipe to boiling them with the crabs, seasoning added?
Do you do anything further with them afterwards? (soup, chowder, eat as-is, yes to all?)
Thanks

Prepare your favorite Crab Boil add the potatoes with crab boil/steam crabs for 15 minutes and add the corn on top for the last 5 minutes.

Awesome, thank you. I can't wait to try. (also because it means I get out to snag some crabs)
