Fished for salmon at the AOTD which meant fishing the bay. By sunrise boats started to net salmon and first thought was this was going to be a stellar day. 2 hrs. into it boats still are netting fish, though not as many as earlier. So here I'm trolling along going shallow just to be different, when out of my corner of my eye I see a fin. I think oh boy this it, but the fin becomes 2 funny looking fins. What! Wait a minute not a salmon but a shark. Here is this shark just swimming along the surface with no care in the world. I quickly pulled in my fly and change to a different fly that doesn't sink as fast and that he might like. Then it hit my like a ton of bricks my steel leaders are with my rockfish gear. So next best thing 20lb. mono and a prayer. The shark was about 40 ft. away and the first cast was I little short but he did change direction and charge at it but stop short. The second cast put the fly about 2ft. from his nose made about two strips and wham the rodeo started. Lucky we where in about 2ft. of water so he really couldn't go down, put me in my backing twice and spun the kayak in every direction. finally got him in the net. A nice 4-1/2 ft. brown smooth nose hound shark. Got a couple of pictures of him and released him to fight another day. After that I was petty much wore out so back to the ramp I headed with a big cheesy gin on my face'

That is beyond awesome.  Sight fishing for sharks out of a kayak with a flyrod.  That's a rare accomplishment in the PNW.  Great story.

Good shark story, but better writing. I caught three in Crescent City about 3 weeks ago, all the same day. My story was similiar but wasn't as good as yours. Great writing!!! Keep it up.

I bet you had a big, well earned, cheesy grin, Scott.  Good one!  I'm surprised, but I can't say I'm shocked; you're a wizard with that fly rod...

Great story and even better catch. Congrats! It's always more fun to catch fish on a fly in a yak.
