This is what I mean... I want a sonar/chartplotter (not brand loyal) that is attached to an arm that is also attached to the transducer.  Then you have your leads go to a battery in a waterproof container.  Ideally, you would have a simple receiver that would allow you to easily remove it from one kayak and place in on the same type of a receiver on another.

I see things for these things separated (ram mounts)... so you would have the transducer on one thing and the head unit one another with the same battery setup I mention above.

It seems a simple thing but I can't find it.

You mean like this:

Ram Arm with transducer mounted to a rod holder plate. Fish finder mounted to same plate.  Battery is housed in a small water proof box.  I use this on my inflatable and a cedar strip sit inside kayak I built many years ago.  I can move it to any kayak with a track on it. Ndogg had a cool setup we used on a tandem when I was the motor in back for his three year old son and him last week at B10 for salmon fishing.  I do not have a photo though.

That is what I am talking about... how much of your setup is diy?

In my head it would be something easily mounted on a rail with one step.

Check out the Yak Attack Cell Block.  Battery fits inside, transducer arm and fish finder attach to the ball mounts on top and cables wind up on the cord holder.  It all mounts on gear track.

Not my boat in the picture, and no I don't own one, I just remember looking at them before for swapping a fish finder between boats.

My first FF was a Hummingbird Fishing Buddy. Aside from the fact that there was no plotter, I found that the transducer was a drag on one side and not only slowed me down but constantly pulled to that side.

When I got my Hobie I went with the scupper mounted transducer and a Lowrance on a Ram Ball mount. Cables run inside the hull. Battery sits inside the hull in their standard battery rack.

For my motor boat, I made a battery box out of a .30 cal ammo box from Harbor Freight, bought a second transducer that I mounted to the transom. I mounted a Ram Ball on top of the battery box, so I can move the head unit between boat and kayak.
