Title: Marinated exploding Rockfish
Post by: Noah on November 20, 2012, 08:19:43 PM
I decided to do some defrosting and smoking of the left over salmon and sturgeon I had in the freezer. 2 cups soy sauce , 2 cups water, some ground pepper and brown sugar. Left to soak overnight and pulled out the good stuff this morning. I figured why not throw in some rockfish and let it soak today while at work? So I dropped a block of frozen rockfish in and figured it would defrost in the frig. Got home today and it was mostly defrosted but still a little frozen. Hmm. Maybe I will just put the glass bowl on the stove on low heat......not a good plan(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/21/5usebase.jpg)

Doh!

Why it happened makes perfect sense AFTER it happens. Wish I could say that I've never done something like this. (18yrs old + frozen windshield + warm water = $$$ wasted)

I recently found out that if you microwave an already hard boiled (and previously peeled) egg for even 30 seconds, it will cause the yolk to explode the second you stick a fork into it. I found it's especially true if you're standing next to your wife while she's wearing a new outfit.

I'm more concerned with the Rockfish filet. Did it survive?

I gotta try this.

Nice post!  :o This reminds me when I left some old stew in a thermos for a few hours out on the kitchen island.  Dang when that cap blew off the top, it was like a bullet hitting the ceiling.  Stew all over the place.  I'm sure glad no one was leaning over it when it went off.

Pretty sure that if you look on the bottom of an intact twin of that bowl it will say something to effect of "Not for stovetop use."  Wonder why?

Kitchen disasters....wow....feel for the clean-up....
My worst incident was with a shaker and waffle batter....decided that the shaker with the lid was going to be great for just adding my mix, water, oil and then just shake and pour....yeah....shook well for about 30 sec, set it down, and the top blew off and sprayed waffle batter like a mushroom cloud and two years later, we are still finding dried up waffle batter droplets as far away as 15' into the dining room.

Epic fail! I was thinking that the bowl was part of our Pyrex set, my wife informed me it was not! The rockfish filets had to be tossed. I was actually standing over the bowl when it exploded. I was pretty much covered head to toe in fish marinate. The wife was actually not all that pissed about. Or so it seemed....there may be a price to pay later. Hopefully nothing like the key incident of 2011....

I like to continue to hold out hope :)

The slow-mo on the GoPro would have been amazing!

I feel for you Noah.  My best epic fail was a failed plug in the toilet riser when testing my fine plumbing work. The procedure requires filling the stack until it overflows on the roof two stories up. When that plug shot to the ceiling we got six inches of water in the bathroom that flowed to about two inches deep in the living room.  Yeah, for some reason my wife usually remembers it when we have guests over.  Must be a fun story to tell.
