I fished near Woodland on the Columbia for three days and had some success .Saturday I started fishing just at low slack tide right in front of the Columbia river RV park .I was using a 3.5 Simon spinner in Mexican Flag pattern .I caught a bright King and released a native Coho in about 4 hours of trolling. I notice a particular boat that was having great success and asked what they were using .They were using the exact same Pro troll 360 with Simon spinner but a 24" leader. The next day I changed my 36" leaders out to 24" and had a great day .I kept a hatchery Coho , released two natives and lost several fish while trying to net them , or just bad luck. Monday I expected to really have it dialed in .I started about 10:00 and fished until 4:00 without a bite .There was one guild boat doing very well with 6 clients so I peddle close enough to see he was using prawns with his spinners but I didn't have any Prawns .Just when you think you have it all dialed in the fish change their appetite overnight !!(http://)

How fast is the current out there? I've been meaning to try the big C but am under the impression a peddle yak is all but mandatory.

Nice report, and thx for sharing! I wonder if the grass/ghost shrimp here in bay area delta would work for salmon here... Next time, get that net out of the photo so we can appreciate that fish and smile better! Thx

The current varies depending where you are on the river and what the tidal swing is. However, the fact that a pedal kayak is necessary is completely false. Spot, one of the better fisherman I know, strictly paddles and does very well on the Columbia. The Columbia is a beast of a river and should not be taken lightly. There are definitely areas in the Portland Vancouver area that offer calm waters that a paddle kayak could paddle and have no issues fighting current

well you have to know that is a huge net,it works almost like a sail sometimes
