Good luck you all. Stay safe and have fun.  I really wanted to be there, but about 30 (+ a few) years ago a girl was born on the same day of the month as the 2010 ORC.  We both grew up, I met and married her and I found out recently that Father's Day weekend does not trump her birthday, nor the plans we had made.  Ah well, there is always next year.   :-\
yup, doesn't trump an anniversary either (why i'm not there)

Put it this way, My 6.1 pound Cabbie was only good enough for a distant 8th place. Too tired for a report, haven't slept since thursday night. It was awesome!

Good event! Talked with the Harbor Master a few days before and he did not even know it was going on....
How about a rock fish classic off the beach next year!

That's odd, I was under the impression that both the harbor master and the coast guard had been informed well ahead of the event.

Holding the event off the beach is fine, if the weather cooperates. We did this in 2008 out of Pacific City and everything went pretty well.  However, not everyone is sufficient in beach launches and landings and we'd like to be as inclusive as possible.

Lets definitely keep it like this please.  I could see some place with a jetty being conducive to a beach and protected launch (Westport maybe?).  Depoe bay was so great because the launch was easy, AND, was a quick, short paddle back to safety if got sick.   ;)

I'm with Lee on this one, I'd love to see it at the same place next year.  For us Washingtonians that don't see the surf all but once a year at the ORC I'd hate for us to drive 300 miles only to have our day end before it even began with a surf launch huli and subsequent yard sale when a great launch like Depoe Bay exists.  No guarantee of not huli'ing but at least the odds are better for a baseline skill level.

I was just thinking that the fishing is alot better a greater distance from where the fishing pressure is heavy.  The beauty of a kayak is you aren't spending $200 to run 20 miles to good fishing....just paddle out anywhere you see a boil....that is the beauty of the kayak.

Shh...do you really want 30+ guys fishing your favorite remote beach launch?  The fishing was just fine at Depoe, the launch was easy, and the facilities are hard to beat.  For a tournament these things out weigh finding the best fishing location possible.  Now, if you ever want to show me some of your launches just send me a PM.  :)

Yeah that was me.  I believe bsteves took a picture or two of me with it at the awards ceremony.  Otherwise, I can do one up really quick.  It was very nice of them to donate the prize - it'll be put to good use.
