Title: Wilderness systems radar 115
Post by: Zackonayak on June 26, 2018, 01:06:09 AM
Alright. I know that until I sit in one, I won’t know my taste for it. But I was wondering if anyone happened to captain one of these beauties. I like the idea of having pedal, and motor built in without modification.
Anyone with insight it would greatly be appreciated.

Fish on!!!

No experience personally with the 115, but I have pedaled the 135 and like it a lot. Keep in mind the motor is $2,000 and the drive is $1,100 above the regular purchase price of ~$1,300. Not to say it's a horrible value, but that motor is pretty heft chunk of change. You can also add a motor to most kayaks with either a torqueedo or a Bixpy system https://bixpy.com/

I don't really know anything about the Bixpy, but I did see that KayakDIY just made a video about them on their YouTube channel. They may have done previous videos, I dunno but I'll copy the link to the recent video here. They make decent content on that channel so I'm going to guess it might be worth a look for you.

While you're waiting to try the boat out for yourself take some time to consider that it is that you need (not want) it to do. For example, for me the list was fast, efficient, capable of open seas, and not so big that I couldn't throw it on my truck canopy racks. I settled on the Revo 13 but seriously considered the Reno 16 and Tarpon 14/16 but found a demo Revo on sale with full warranty and new drive. Anyways, start by looking at your needs. If you're willing to spend that kind of money on the Radar and motor/drive, you probably have a range of options at your disposal.

Dbam  I think that’s what I like about it, is that I can purchase the drives separate. So it’s not all upfront. I’ve been eyeballing a Hobie PA12 for about a week now that’s going for about 2000. Just hoping it holds out until until Friday which should be my purchase day!!!

Hey just curious, have you settled on a boat yet? Always fun to hear where the chips fall on the big purchases.

As with life, it happened. I have not settled yet and to top things off. My old lady broke my fishing pole today. So now I’m down to just my heavy salmon rod haha. Unfortunately the dishwasher broke and my daughters car broke. So now I think I’m just going to pick up a nice cheap one to at least get on the water with something
