Title: Of COURSE I'm going to be out of town...
Post by: Fred "True" Trujillo on June 28, 2022, 09:03:07 AM
... and the conditions look GREAT this weekend! Ugh. I HAD to volunteer to go to Chicago for a week for work. No good deed goes unpunished... If any of you get out to the coast this weekend, please post as I will be admiring from afar. Hope to get my drysuit when I return and head out the next weekend before I start teaching Summer School (No, not the Mark Harmon version...).

Never made it to Fogarty.
Had to make a pit stop at Depoe and there was parking by the fish cleaning building.
Just about straight out to 180 feet with all the other boats and I was done in 10 minutes with a pair of coho.

The hoes are here  8). Similar to Monkeyfist, we found them off Fogarty at the 180 foot contour. SD2OR limited out relatively quickly. I had to sort through a couple wilds and a small hatchery fish before I could get my first keeper at 25 inches. Few more drive-bys after that, then finally stuck a nice 27 incher around 0900. Brad's Cut Plug in Blue Hawaiian behind a triangle flasher, 30 feet of line, 10 oz weight. The 27 incher had a squid in his belly, and we marked a fair amount of bait out there too...makes me wonder if they were herring or squid. Water temp was 52 at the beach, a couple degrees warmer at 180.

Tried halibut for a bit, but got bored with that. So we caught some sand dabs and used those as live bait for lings. They loved em. Came away with 32 and 30 inchers. Released a few giant blacks. The bottomfish bite was kinda scratchy, probably due to the lack of current. Really need some current to get them in the mood.

Ocean was stellar. I'll be back tomorrow.
