Title: Finally went fishing at Whiskey Gulch
Post by: easyyakker on July 09, 2018, 08:02:05 AM
I can't believe July 6th was my first time fishing year. It was a gorgeous day at Whiskey Gulch. I fished the afternoon low tide. Went down to the clam beds about 3 1/2 miles from the launch. Ran into one other kayak (Joe from Soldotna). Was surprised I didn't see more kayaks on such a beautiful day.

Fishing was o.k. A little slow, but I kept one about 30 pounds, lost one at the surface (I took too long deciding how I wanted to grab/gaff/harpoon it), and kept one about 12 pounder.

Also tried my Torqueedo for the first time. Very nice. Will be very nice for salmon trolling. I was always limited in the amount of time I could troll in a day. (Old, bad knees only allowed 2 or 3 hours.) With pedaling and powering I should be able to go as long as I want.

In all a great day. I'm hoping for another day like that for the Barbie Tourney. Hope to see you all there.

The water looked great Thursday. I wasn't on it, but was looking at it from the bluff.

Limited on Thursday. Not big fish but they were my first from a kayak so I was pleased. No luck on the friday low tide but still had a blast.
