Nice!  A laker is still on my list of fish to catch off a kayak.  4 tries...zero....

The best source of information I've found about catching lake trout is a two-DVD set called "Catching Lake Trout in Flathead Lake - Tips and Recommendations for Jiggers, Trollers, and Dock Anglers," which is available for free from the Natural Resources Department of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. The many anglers featured in these DVDs are extremely effective and experienced lake trout fishermen, who have come in at or near the top of the Mack Days fishing derbies. For a copy, call Cindy Benson at 406-675-2700, ext. 7294, or e-mail her at cindyb@cskt.org.

However, lake trout hang out in different areas in different lakes, based on food sources, water temperatures, and water depths.  For example, in Flathead Lake, schools of lakers hang out on the bottom in 250-350 feet, gobbling up Mysis shrimp, and jiggers target those schools.  In lakes without Mysis, you may not find those schools.

great Catch..... I find pretty much any Salmon techniques works for Lakers, just may need to change up the lure being used for mimicking the area food source .... I love going for Lakers out of the kayak, mostly cause I'm no where close to salt water ;(

I forgot to de-barb hooks, fish was fine and barbs were off right after.

I'm just itching for a chance to hit Lake Chelan.  If only I had the time to just go.  Ah well, kids won't be so little forever, and the lakers will still be in Chelan when I do get out there.
