Title: 8/21 Fogarty
Post by: tjpeck on August 21, 2022, 07:28:50 PM
What a day!
Sure, I’ve been doing this for only a year or so, but what a great day on Lake Pacifica and what a great bunch of folks on this forum.  I am totally hooked now.
Kudos to Steve, Ian, Chris, Anthony, Jeff, and Evan … just for being civil, kind and enthusiastic. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

My personal report was … witnessed the fish of the day, returned a couple underlings, kept a couple blacks that hit my salmon troll.

All thanks too Tom for letting me use his net, which regrettably, I dropped in the drink and lost while wrestling with this fish.

Nice work on that nookie, Wil! Haven't seen many of those from Fogarty/Depoe this season.

Found a pretty good coho bite way out around the 210' contour. A lot of really nice, fat, wild coho busting on bait on the surface. You'd see schools of 30-40 little fish leaping out of the water for their lives every now and then. I thought the bait was herring, but after cleaning my fish, turns out they were Pacific saury. Pretty cool, and would've been a great opportunity to chuck or topline spoons on spinning gear. I had success running a Brad's Cut Plug in Blue Hawaiian with 15-20 feet of line out. Released a few wilds, lost a handful, several drive-bys, and retained the first two hatchery fish I landed. Kind of a bummer that the hatchery fish were dinky 4 pounders when the wilds are running more than twice that size. Hopefully they stick around for the September 3 non-select season, and the weather cooperates!
