1st meeting of the USA Kayak Fishing Saltwater Team down!  What an incredible lineup of world class saltwater kayak fishermen and fisherwomen from across the United States!

1) Adam Fisk  - Coach Florida
2) Robert Field  - Captain Texas
3) David Elgas  - Hawaii
4) Allen Sansano  - Nor Cal
5) Annie Nagel  - Nor Cal
6) Dakota Dunmire  - New Jersey
7) Corey Apo  - Hawaii
8) Mark Veary  - Oregon
9) Chris Mautino  - So Cal
10) Elsa Flores  - So Cal
11) Guy Marsh  - Texas
12) Justin Ritchey  - Florida

This meeting was all about the logistics of pulling off participation in an international competition with under 3 months of planning.  Given the short time frame, we're too late for much sponsorship support so you'll likely see posts from me in the future asking for a couple of bucks to ensure we have all of the gear and transportation expenses covered.

I think it’s an XXL or a large king. I’m 6’ and 260lbs. Used it mostly for work on my SOs grad project, took it fishing 4 times or so. Gaskets are original and uncut. 1000$ OBO.

Wow, great point on the fly line + pedals makes it difficult. Much appreciated nobaddays. Maybe if I hit up some demo days, I'll see what works for me.

Thanks!

Welcome to NWKA.  There are many of us that do a lot of fly fishing from the kayak.  You are going to have a blast.  One thing I learned was it is almost harder for me to stand on the kayak to fly fish.  At least with a pedal drive, the fly line would get caught up in the pedals etc.  Fly fishing from a seated position, keeps the line coiled right in from of the seat.  Things may be different for you, but something to keep in mind while looking at different kayaks.

As far as picking a kayak, I would suggest going to one of the demo days that many of the kayak shops offer.  The Hobie Revo is a great kayak and would be faster than the Outback.  I have had both, but use an Outback because has much more storage options.  Both are very stable, but have a very different feel when on the water.  Happy hunting and hope you find just the right kayak.

Moving to BI in 3 weeks and STOKED to learn how you all do this!

Long time fly fisherman and kayaker but never tried to mix the two...and almost never salt water fished in my 25 years in the PNW. Strictly rivers till now.

I'm in research mode (thank you for stored wisdom so far) on what, where, and how. Then I'll start looking for what will be primarily a recreational pedal drive around Eagle Harbor...but occasional fishing platform in the bigger water and off other beaches.

Thinking Hobie Revo 13 but I'm open to suggestion and your guidance. Gotta keep up with my wife in her sea kayak on jaunts to town. And then turn around and go hunt salmon, src, and bottom fish.

For now, I'll keep reading, trying, and combing the used for sale list.

Thanks!

I only had a few hours to fish yesterday morning before work, but I was stoked to enjoy the nice water for a bit. The early morning bite was scratchy, as it usually is with bottomfish. Things slowly picked up as the sun rose in the sky. Connected on a few lings, harvested 33 and 32 inchers. Sifted through blacks, blues, and deacons to harvest the tastiest-looking ones. Headed back to the beach by 1030.

Water temp high 40s, 15 ft of vis, bout a 1mph north current. The cold water likely depressed the rockfish bite, but I was expecting a better lingcod bite given the conditions. I fished 70-90 ft yesterday. It's possible the ling bite was better shallower or deeper than that, I just didn't have the time to investigate. Glad to see SD2OR and Kemfish found some good ones after I left, nice fish guys!
