Hello NWKA!

I'm turning 35 this week, and I decided to give myself a birthday present: a used Hobie Outback. Looking forward to getting off the bank!

I'm new to NW fishing. I grew up bass fishing in the southwest, so I've got a lot to learn. I'm hoping to go after Chinook, Coho, Kokanee, Bass, Halibut, Crab, etc etc. All in good time.

If anyone is ever looking for a fishing buddy within an hour or two drive of Portland, I'd love to meet up. Or if anyone has any recommendations on great places to start, I'd appreciate the advice.

Welcome Michel!
There's quite a few of us in the Portland area on the board. Hang around a little while here and keep posting and the forum will open up a bit with fishing reports and fishing meetups as well.

Welcome MichelH.  Congratulations on the new to you Outback (I love mine). 
There are usually invites going up all the time on here so keep an eye out for those.
As far as recommendations, I'd start off small.  I started  off at Hagg Lake.  I went there a lot when I first got my kayak (I still frequent Hagg Lake since I'm so close to it).   Then gradually work your way up, small river, Bay, bigger river, then finally the big blue.  Make sure you have all the required safety equipment also.
Last but not least, frequent the forums, there is a lot of great info here.

I am a LONG time PNW fisherman and a recent convert to Kayak fishing and will not go back.  I probably jumped in the deep end faster that prudent.  For easy places to start I have had great success on Willamette for small mouth.  In the last three weeks I have been going out at the mouth of the Lewis river west of Woodland WA.  Seven hooked 4 landed.  Most days it is very kayak friendly, but ALWAY dress like you are going to fall in.  Water temp is 64 ish

I am new to the board as well, but my plan is to fish all my old haunts.  Next up is moving up the Columbia and hitting Tillamook Bay for some big fish.
