I didn't get skunked, I caught and released! ;D  I have video of Saturday's to prove it. Lots of cuss words were said.  I also caught and released crab.  The side of my pot was wide open when I pulled it. >:(  Sadly, I did have to release a native in the Columbia on Monday.  It looked so tasty.  At least it gave me a hit of the tug-drug.  But now I want more.

I've never fished for bass and wouldn't know where to fish out there, but I'd be willing to come down and help out IHop with any HOW Portland stuff, so he can go out and fish. I can also help out with weigh in and waivers if you guys need. Let me know ASAP. I might need a place to pitch my tent if someone could lend me a section of their yard.:D

Nate you need some edits.  It says $20 and you previously stated it would be $15.  I'm okay with $20, but I'm just checking in case it's a typo.  Maybe its because I missed the deadline for early sign up that ended back in Sept 10, 2011.

Oh not it's all correct, you guys should have pre-paid for this tourney at the same time you signed up for last years.  You are lucky we are only charging $5 for late entries.   ;)

I informed our web department of the errors and they should be fixed today.

It looks like I need to show up in portland on the 5th to get checked in huh?  Is there any way that I can sign the waivers via email / fax.

There's no way I'd want to sign up the day of the tourney, that's waisted fishing time :)

It says anglers must be present to win the raffle.  I have something I need to be at at 4:00 pm. Can I hire a designee (possibly from Sassy's) so I do not break my raffle winning streak, or can it just be the person that accepts my trophy for me?

I have some yaks and I am willing to help out.  However, I will require a little lead time to change my current plans.  Also, I have to be somewhere at about 4 :30 so I, and whomever I fish with, will need to report in our 1st and 2nd place  fish early. ;D

I have never fished it, but I am bored with the same old same old of George Rogers.  Rock Island has a Nature Conservancy preserve on it that I have always wanted to paddle to but have never made it up that way.  Maybe we can get lucky and hook a coho trolling up there. I will see you there unless I am helping Ihop.  I will shoot for a sunrise launch.

I've been up there a couple of times. Hooked a couple, but I have in no way figured out that area. It is a lot of fun to pedal / paddle around up there though. There is a lot of different types of habitat there, so there is bound to be some fish in one of them. I haven't figured out my plans for the weekend, but I may head up there.

BTW, we're planning to fish around Cedaroak. Welcome to join us.

Fished it for a while last weekend.  There are definitely fish there.  I hooked 2 on wigglewarts while looking for salmon.  One of the bass guys told me he'd hooked a half dozen with 2 in the 3lb range.
No I won't specify where and no I won't tell you what he caught them on.   >:D

I caught 5 SMB and a coho jack by George Rogers park.  My biggest was a little over 16 inches.  I was told that I got 2nd, but they could be yankin' my chain since I wasn't there for the final bell. ;)  I did have a first ever.  Two SMB hitting the same crankbait at the same time.

Ben, sam's son, got first with a 16.5 inch bass, Craig second with a 16ish bass, and Brian/Owen got third.

Ben and Sam started at Willamette park with us and then headed down to cedar oak in the afternoon. I believe they got the winning fish just off the boat ramp.

We tried for bass for a while at cedar oak and then switched over to sturgeon. Steve got one right off the bat, I then picked up one and then our Hero on the Water Pete got his first yak fish! Not the bass we had been looking for but still a nice fish!

1st place won a half day trip with Jammer. Second place gets a 15 mile nearshore fish less paddle with me...Congrats!

Here's Ben and the 16.5" small mouth he caught just off the boat ramp at Cedaroak.  It was his second of the day - having landed another smaller one earlier up near Willamette Park. My daughter and I didn't fair so well with the fish - but had a great time out there!  Wonderful to meet and fish with a great group today!!

Thanks to Next Adventure for puting this event on, and the Heroes on the Water group for what you are doing.  Also to Jammer for the prize donation - my son is definitely looking forward...

Wow!  Sorry I'd missed the info on this event for I'm from down south.  Being a HOW supporter and a Powell Pro Staff I can get you guys a rod for next years event.

Thank you again to the great folks at NA for putting on such a wonderful event.

We started the day at the mouth of the Tualatin hoping for a coho to start the day and a bass to end it. It was not in the cards and I only heard of the one jack that waterman caught. We decided to head upriver to try our luck at some bass
It was windy....

No bites on the mile or so troll upriver. I tried the center channel of the islands also with no luck. The dog was getting bored..

Until she found some ducks to play with  ;D

After trying that area for another couple of hours we decided to pack it up and head down below the falls.
Back on the water we ran into last year's champ Rawkfish and stopped to chat for a moment.

Convinced that none of us could catch a bass if our lives depended on it we switched over for some sturgeon action. Our Vet Pete looked ready for some action

Wobbler dropped anchor and started warming up the hole,

Eventually we got Pete into his first ever Sturgeon, first fish from a kayak, and first fish landed by a PDX HOW.

Jake,

Again, I want to express our gratitude for your generous donation to HOW and all the great publicity your event generated for us. And thanks to all the Next Adventure team that made this possible as well as the Portland HOW team who spent the entire day working hard to make Pete's experience a positive and productive one.

And a special thanks to  Dino and Dulce for making the long trek to support us, that's team spirit!

You can mail the check to:

Heroes on the Water
101-C North Greenville Ave. #55
Allen, TX 75002-2200

Make sure to note that this is for the Portland Chapter.

We also got $23 in the collection jar, I'll be forwarding that as well.

Pete has expressed his joy and appreciation for the chance to get on the water with us and is spreading the word far and wide!

Here's the note I received from our Hero Pete. HOW National has expressed a desire to get his personal story for their newsletter (he's a 10 year Army Vet who was a Scout Chopper Pilot who served in Desert Storm).

Hi Aytch,

I want to express my heartfelt thanks for a really fantastic day on the river with you and the rest of the guys from Heroes on the Water (HOW).  I've been telling anybody and everybody what a fun time I had and how helpful everyone was.  Between you, Steve, Noah and Jeff I felt like I didn't had to worry about a thing the whole day.  Also, many thanks to Next Adventure for the cool swag, the BBQ at the end of the day and for their support of HOW.

I also want to thank you for taking on HOW in the Portland area and giving veterans like myself the opportunity to do something uniquely fun and interesting.  Not all wounds are visible on the outside.  What you are doing provides a low stress environment full of healthy distractions which helps with healing of our minds and hearts.  Sure, I was tired and sore the next day but that was a small price to pay for all the good that came from being out on the water with a great bunch of guys that let me put my worries aside for a day.  There is no way to put a price on the sort of healing that comes from that.

You can be sure I will spread the word about HOW the best I am able.  I certainly will support your efforts in any way that I can.

I look forward to going fishing again in the near future!

Thank you again.

Pete
