Rumor has it, the original planning didn't account for the group of kayak fishermen that hit the system the last couple of weeks.  You guys really nailed them - based on the photo evidence, I'm blaming you, Craig, BSteves, Wobbler, Noah, and a few others for the early closure!

Monday was a very frustrating yet exciting day. In my search for a hatchery Chinook I hooked 10 salmon and caught 8. Not sure about how many Craig hooked but he caught 5. I ended up with 1 small coho.

I'm so confused.... ODFW has buoy 10 area changed as closed for Chinook after today. All the rest is open.

-August 24 – August 28: Retention of adipose fin-clipped Chinook (24-inches or longer) allowed. The daily bag limit is two salmonids, only one of which may be a Chinook.

- August 29 – September 30: Retention of all Chinook is prohibited. The daily bag limit is two adult salmonids (adipose fin-clipped coho/steelhead only).

http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/fishing/reg_changes/columbia.asp

Does that mean you can retain Chinook if you have an Oregon License? What if you have an Oregon License and launch and land from the WA side? Have to have a WA license then?

No, Oregon and Washington are in sync on the Columbia river regulations.   Chinook in Buoy 10 closes tomorrow and opens up again on October 1st.

My thoughts ran to the State Fair. A whole bunch of people in a small space, all moving in different directions.

I'll let you know how it goes.  I can usually find areas that PBs avoid, even when crowded.  And I'm not afraid of getting in the "troll train" if needed.

Perfect metaphor.  Keep in mind that there is plenty of water upriver from the deadline and just because there aren't any boats in a certain spot, doesn't mean there aren't any fish there.   ;)

Also keep in mind if the above mentioned kayak fishermen are down stream from you there won't be many fish passing you.  ;D
