Tent runs $16
You will need a day use/launch permit $5 if you launch from the parks or if you attend the potluck

Everything is dependent on COVID-19 restrictions but as of today 2/4/2021 there is only social distancing (6ft) on outdoor events and activities. I will try to post updates if anything changes drastically.

Stoked to have Petzl as a sponsor for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout 6. These are the best headlamps around and I use mine constantly. They offer gear for work and play and always have great stories on their page. Find their gear at www.petzl.com/US/en or win one of these awesome headlamps at the BCS 6. Thanks for the continued support Steve.

Rod n Bobbs sent a sweet prize pack for the BCS 6.

I really like their floats for crappie fishing. I usually have a bobber and jig out while trolling and when I stop to work the bank the second rod is always fishing.

Find floats for every species and fishing situation at www.rod-n-bobbs.com/index.php?page=home or at many sporting goods shops.

Thank you for the donation Maryanne.

Happy to hear from Bob's Jigs this year. Bob makes all of the best soft crappie jig styles for a very reasonable price. His stingers price out at about 15 cents a piece which is much less than most other makers. He will also make custom colors and is very easy to work with. His site www.bobsjigs.com is a little funky and you may have to refresh the page but has some great gear and is located literally at the venue in Richland, OR. Thanks for the support Bob.

Work Sharp sent another great prize for the BCS VI.

Along with their Guided Field Sharpener, they sent their top of the line Ken Onion Knife and Tool Sharpener for some lucky anglers to win. We love having local sponsors and being located in Ashland, OR certainly qualifies. These sharpeners are very easy to use and puts an edge on almost anything. Check them out at www.worksharptools.com or come over to Hewitt Park and try mine.

Thanks for the great donation Heather.

Team Crappie sent a mess o gear that has crappie written all over it. Literally :D

Team Crappie is a part of the Road Runner lineup and are proven fish catchers. These lures are very versatile in the way that you can work them, the ability to change out the trailers to match the bite, and the ability to catch multiple species. Perfect for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout format.

ICEMULE is back on the prize table!

Stoked to have an ICEMULE Pro (L) up for grabs this year. The company produces tough soft side coolers for those on the go. Visit https://icemulecoolers.com/ to see what models they offer and one that fits your needs.

I'm still using my Pro Catch Cooler that I got years ago and it's still keeping fish cold after a long day on the water.

Thanks for the donation Anne.

HydroKaddy has come through again with a great prize for the table, a gift certificate for a $200.

Description:
The HydroKaddy is a versatile water tight accessory for anything on the water! It’s ideal for those kayak or SUP camping trips. Great for keeping your catch on ice while spear diving. A must have accessory while kayak or SUP fishing. And even nice to have while boating.

I think it would have been awesome to have one of these when I was spearfishing to keep the blood out of the water but this product could be used in a bunch of other ways.

Find their gear and other ideas at https://kayakkaddy.com/product/hydro-kaddy-2/

Excited to have a new sponsor this year.

Bink's Pro Series Spoons sent a mess of spoons for the BCS VI. Ballard Brad and a few of the Seattle guys have been killing the crappie on these lures. He says the are super productive, especially when fish are holding in deep water. They also work excellent for catching other species such as perch and trout and will be a great lure to use at Brownlee. Columbia river walleye also comes to mind. I can't wait to try them.

https://www.binkspoons.com/ has a huge variety of spoons and other gear for almost every type of fish. Definitely worth checking them out.

Thank you for the donation Kevin.

Big Hammer sent some Mini Hammers to the Brownlee Crappie Shootout 6. These lures are very very effective by them selves or in paired with other lures and should have a place in any tackle box. From Lingcod to Crappie, Big Hammer makes a size and model for all species.

When crappie fishing is slow, I like to change out my Road Runner skirt with a Mini Hammer to add some tail thump and change the lure action a little.

Find the whole Big Hammer line up at http://www.swimbait.com/ and http://www.sunrizetackle.com/shop

Thank you for the great donation Pete.

PowerTraveller makes a wide range of device and solar chargers that are built to withstand the tough conditions that kayak anglers seem to gravitate to. This is definitely a top prize from Werner Paddles.

Werner sent a gift certificate for a brand spankin new paddle worth up to $315.

True story: I got a Hooked Camano when I used an Ocean Kayak and carry it now on my Hobie. Four years ago as I was getting ready for a fishing trip, I backed over both sides of the paddle with the truck. One side was cracked pretty good so I tried to finish the job with my hands. They are so well built I couldn't get it to break.

Fast forward to 2019 and while fishing about a mile down stream of my truck on the Columbia, a cable in my drive snaps. That Camano performed flawlessly for the entire paddle back up river. I cannot praise these paddles enough and they are absolutely worth having even if you use a foot powered kayak.

Check out https://wernerpaddles.com/ to find top of the line paddles made right here in the PNW.

Thank you for the local support Trent and Taylor.

VERY happy to have Z-MAN on the sponsor list this year.

The Z-MAN line of lures are very effective on pretty much all species of fish. I have been using them for years and I am still amazed at the variety of fish that will hit an unassuming 3 inch piece of plastic.
Their their voodoo magic ElaZtech lures are virtually indestructible and one worm can catch a hundred fish or more.

The Finesse TRD is a must for all tackle boxes and I wouldn't come to the BCS without at least a few different colors.

Find all of their gear at https://www.zmanfishing.com/cms/index.php I hear their Chatterbaits are pretty good too.

Thank you for the great lures Alex.

The fish in the pix below were all caught at the BCS venue.

CUDA sent an interesting prize to the Brownlee Crappie Shootout VI this year. It is called the CUDA Tackle Center. Here's the overview:

This unique tool containment system provides you with a convenient place to store your Cuda tools. Fits securely into most cup holders and the turning ring at the base locks it into place. An excellent choice for kayaks where space and mobility are limited. Containment rods inside the tackle center hug the tools and keep them from shifting.  Fits multiple tools and knives of varying sizes. The net cover connects in 4 spots to keep tools in place. Easy to clean.  Instruction sheet included. Lifetime Warranty (excludes containment rods and net).

I constantly use my built in cup holders to hold gear while fishing so this may be a great way to better utilize the area. It feels super stout and looks well made. I'll be taking a closer look when the winner of this cool prize opens it up.

CUDA offers a range of solid gear. Many for salt water applications but a lot of cross over gear for the inland angler. Find their full line up at https://www.cudabrand.com/

Thank you for the neat prize Geri.

SKWOOSH sent a couple of their cushions for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout VI prize table this year.

I have two of these handy cushions and we use them all of the time. In addition to using them on fishing seats, the fam discovered they are compact and easy to carry to football games to add comfort to the wood bleachers and keeps your butt dry when it's raining.

Visit https://skwoosh.com/ to find all of their useful products.

Thanks for the great prizes Katie.

IronFlask sent a box full of these sweet water bottles to the Brownlee Crappie Shootout VI this year.

With all of the naughty things plastic is doing to the environment, reusable metal water bottles is a way that we can cut down the amount of plastic that we use every day. Their water bottles feel solidly made and easy to use and I gotta say, looks pretty cool. The blue they sent fits in with the event but they offer a range of colors.

Visit https://www.ironflask.com/ to find water bottles, tumblers, and even food jars that my wife loves for taking homemade meals to work.

Thank you for the great donation Nora.

BOGS sent the Brownlee Crappie Shootout VI a gift certificate for $100 for the prize table.

These are not your normal rubber boots. They are super comfy and will keep your feet warm and dry in the worst weather. I use mine for hunting in the snow and I imagine they would be perfect for keeping your feet dry while launching your kayak.

In addition to the usual knee high work boots, they have low top shoes that are perfect for everyday use. Visit https://www.bogsfootwear.com/shop/index.html to find their full line of boots.

Thank you for the great donation.

Old Town Canoe and Kayak sent a great prize pack to the Brownlee Crappie Shootout VI.

Old Town kayaks are some of the best kayaks on the market. Old Town has a long history of building quality water craft beginning in 1898 :o and continuing to improve till this day. Along with great paddle canoes and kayaks, their pedal driven models utilizing their PDL Drive system are really getting noticed in the sport of kayak fishing. This drive employs a rotary bicycle like motion that transfers energy to a prop drive. This has the benefit of instant reverse to keep you in the zone and make quick corrections. The boats them selves are super stable and glides well for minimal effort and maximum travel.

Find their entire line of innovative kayaks at https://www.oldtowncanoe.com/

Thank you for the great donation Ryan and Dan and Tyler for the intro.

Excited to have Fire Maple as a new sponsor to the BCS this year.

This company makes super compact stoves, cook wear, and utensils perfect for camp outs and hikes that have limited space available. I think they would also be very useful to take along in a kayak for an emergency or to have a hot shore lunch.

The prize pack includes a 300-T Titanium Stove and a Feast 2 Cook wear set. The stove looks very well made, is compatible with standard fuel canisters, and folds up to a tiny size to fit anywhere. This stove is also an ISPO award gold winner.

Here is the specs for the Feast 2:

Feast 2 is a versatile and durable camp cook-set ideal for small groups of 2-3 people. Hard anodized aluminum cooking surface provides excellent heat transfer and resists food sticking.

The cooking pot with lid is excellent for pasta, soups, stews and preparing dehydrated meals. The lid features a heat resistant handle with drain holes for easy straining.

The griddle pan features a wave design that works great for pancakes, grilling or even frying meats and veggies. Locking handles on the pan and pot provide a secure and safe handle while cooking and fold away for compact storage. The .8 Liter kettle with lid is great for boiling water fast for tea, coffee, or dishes.

The kit even includes a sponge, cooking paddle, and two bowls! The Feast 2 is excellent for car camping but is light and compact enough for extended backpacking trips.

The prize includes 10 rolls each of 6 and 8 lb test Hi Viz fluorescent green CX premium line. I've been using their Floroclear for about 15 years and really like the way it performs. It resists abrasion while offering the benefits of a fluorocarbon.

Along with quality fishing line, P-Line http://www.p-line.com/ offers a wide range of fishing tackle and gear for every angler and species while Beckman https://beckmanfishingnets.com/ has you covered for any type of net you will need.

Lancer Jigs have supported the Brownlee Crappie Shootout from the beginning and we appreciate all support they offer.

Copper

Terry and Tony are some of the best people around and I cannot rave enough about the lures they produce. Their classic salt water jigs are essential if you are chasing lingcod, rockfish, or even halibut. They provoke vicious strikes from all species and will fill you limit in no time.

Water

If you are into river fishing, they have started making steelhead jigs and soft beads that I hope to try out this year.

Dog

No subliminal advertising here lol.

For a good time go to https://lancerjigs.com/

Thankyou for the continual support of the kayak fishing community Terry and Tony.

Stealth Quick Release Rod Holders sent a few of their QR1's for the Brownlee Crappie Shootout.

I have been using their rod holders for 5 years and like them so much, joined their pro staff several years ago. They are great people to work with and will help if you have any problems with their products. The solid construction and patented cam locking system locks your rod into a preferred rod orientation allowing you to set the hook and release the rod in one motion when you take a strike. I have used it for still fishing as well as trolling with no problems.

They are constantly expanding their line up at https://www.stealthrodholders.com/

Thank you Cari and Jason for the support.

Safety is always a top concern while kayak fishing and RescueSteps sent the BCS VI a potentially life saving prize. Three actually.

RescueSteps makes boarding ladders for boats and kayaks as well as safety gear for hunters. I found out the hard way that righting a turtled kayak and then trying to re enter in deep water while fighting the wind and currents can be VERY challenging. I failed to practice self rescue on a new kayak I had gotten and treading water was not the time or place to learn. A RescueStep would have really come in handy and made things a lot easier. I have since practiced on my new boat but I also carry an assist step as a back up.

Have a back up plan and check out their steps at https://rescuestep.com/

Thank you for the awesome prizes Richard.

Outdoor Emporium will be donating a prize pack (TBD) to the BCS VI.

OE is your go to shop for kayaks and general sporting goods in the Seattle and surrounding areas. They have a great staff and will help in any way they can. Brick and mortar stores are a great way to get a hands on feel for kayaks and can give you a better understanding of certain products.

Check out their site online at https://sportco.com/ or walk in to their shop in Seattle.

Thanks for the donation and good luck winning the buckle this year Kevin and Brad!

ZR Custom Tackle will be donating some gear to the event this year.

Kyle has been making gear for a while and started producing lures for sale a couple of years ago. He has a variety of bass gear but really struck gold when he made the Lil Bugger Jig. I've been using this thing for a few years now and it flat catches fish. Pair it with a Z Man TRD and it's almost unstoppable :D

Visit his site at https://www.zrcustomtackle.com/ to find his newest creations.

Thanks for the support Kyle.

Hi everyone, due to continuing COVID restrictions we will not be having a potluck at the awards ceremony this year. I will try to find out what the exact criteria is for Baker County outdoor events and post them up. The rules are constantly changing so if I don't have info up by Friday just keep 6ft distancing at the capt meeting and I should have info by then. Thanks, jed.

Here's some incentive to win and not just get close this year. These next donation will go to first, second, and third places.

First gets a sweet buff along with the buckle. This is so people can see you are the Crappie King even when you are on the water and the real buckle is under your drysuit cutting in to your belly.

Second gets a Coping Blanky to comfort you for what could have been.

Third... Well I'm just sorry for third. Try not to be third.

Thanks? to Jurissah and Spot for the creepy donation.

Stoked to have Phenix Rods on the BCS sponsor list this year.

Phenix makes some super sweet, high quality rods that are reasonably prices. They have an extensive line of rods ranging from Ultra Light to Heavy Duty offshore sticks. These rods are very light and sensitive with good backbone. Perfect for detecting light bites while still having the power to put the wood to big fish.

The donations consists of a Phenix Maxim 7'7" fast action rod and a lighter Maxim 6'10" mod-fast tip.

I had a chance to try out their Feather rod and was super impressed with the action. It telegraphed the softest crappie bites like a shot to my hand through a unique reel seat system that improves sensitivity. Two thumbs up from me but the crappie didn't agree ;D

Visit https://phenixrods.com/ to learn more about their rods and pick out a winner for you next trip.

Thank you for the awesome donation Scarlett.

Idaho River Sports sent 10% off coupons for the BCS swags bags.

IRS has been in business for 35 years offering Boise and surrounding areas a complete line of kayaking equipment. They carry all of the biggest names in the kayaking industry and the staff is well informed on products and techniques if you have any questions.

Conveniently located, the shop is just steps from a paved launch into Quinns pond so you can try before you buy which is always a good idea. Just a little further away is the Boise whitewater park for those looking for a little more of an adventure.

They have everything from kayaks to components. The wall of accessories is my favorite hang out :D

Check out the shop online at https://idahoriversports.com/ or visit them in person at 601 N Whitewater Park Blvd, Boise, ID 83702

IRS is also sponsoring some local bass fishing tournaments. Check out  Kayak Fishing Northwest (KFNW) and https://kayakfishingnorthwest.com/ to see when and where the next event is being held.

Thank you for the support Jo and Stan.

Next Adventure is always down to help out the kayak fishing community and this year is no exception. They sponsor many of the local events such as the Oregon Rockfish Classic, The Chinook Showdown, and the NWKA Angler of the Year event. I participate in these and really appreciate the support that Next provides.

If the donation is anything like previous years they will be sending a boat load of gear to the BCS VI.

Next Adventure is THE shop to visit if you need of any sort of outdoor gear in the Portland area. I even know of people that drive in from Washington to visit the store because of their expert knowledge and quality gear they provide.

If you want to rent a kayak for a day on the water or if you would like to take one for a test drive, then you can visit their Scappoose Bay Paddling Center. I took a friend there to test a couple of kayaks last year and can say that shop runs very smoothly making the process super easy.

They also have a solid online game at https://www.nextadventure.net/ so if you need anything for your Next Adventure please check them out.

Thanks for all of the support CJ and good luck on winning this year. Try not to be third :D

I wish there was some way of monitoring the developments of the Shootout so that those of us who may never participate can still experience it vicariously during the event. This organized effort by those members volunteering their extensive time and energy, as well as the impressive list of sponsors and donations is one of the most "well-oiled machines" I've seen by a niche group of outdoors people. My congratulations to all of you involved, including each angler who signed up to play the game.

Looking forward to seeing the results as a number of you participants have indicated some serious dedication of effort to place high up on the board.  Will prophecies...or dreams...come true?  ;D

Any chance some anglers could give us some TEASERS here on this thread tomorrow without giving away their game plans?  Like a post and pic of a good catch or of one of the more difficult species to nail...just to make the competition drool.

Good luck to all. I envy you. Play safe.

Hi Klondike Kid, the reception down at the park is about zero but I can get some here in town. Pre fishing has been tough with heavy wind and water rising by feet a day. That makes the reservoir different every day so anyone has a fair shot at winning. The fish has been spread out but smallies are everywhere as usual. If you can find a perch or crappie, they are big. I seen a perch that was 13” yesterday and multiple crappie that were 14” or more. Jimbob got a 15”er on Thursday. The pic below is Kredden with a 14.5 caught on Friday. It’s currently 4am game day so I’m heading down to the launch to meet late arrivals. Will try to keep you guys posted.

Thanks Jed.

Looks to me like you boys and girls are having some "inclement" weather to deal with. Chilly and windy down there, not to mention the reservoir level changes forcing the fish to constantly adjust to a new environment. Will be interesting to see how the stringers turn out.  Just as nasty in AK today, 50°F, cloudy, windy....I'm tying up rockfish and greenling flies today!

Magic Mike Ragland had a fantastic day edging out Evan Merz by about 1.5 inches of crappie.

Hope to have more and better pix soon.
