Title: Beer battered trout
Post by: Ravensfan on April 28, 2015, 09:27:06 AM
This weekend I took my Revo 13 to Lake Goodwin for my first kayak fishing trip, and caught a limit of rainbow trout. I decided to fry one when I hot home, and this was my recipe:

Deep-fryer with Peanut oil
One Rainbow Trout (deboned and skinned)
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup of you're favorite beer (I used Hamms)
2tbsp Johnny's seasoned salt
1tsp baking powder
2tbsp garlic powder
1tsp onion powder

Preheat deer-fryer. Cut trout into equally sized pieces and set aside. Mix remaining ingredients, you may need a little more beer to get the right consistency. Dip and fully coat trout into batter. Drop it into the fryer and move it to the top to keep it from sticking to the bottom. Cook 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Enjoy!

Very Nice! That is about exactly what I use if I make my own beer batter- with one exception... I've recently started substituting with corn starch for about 1/2 of the flour (equal parts or more). Everything else is the same. Turns out more light and crispy tempura like. Makes a good onion ring batter too.

Little trout like that are hard to get all the pin bones out so good job on your effort!

Looks tasty!  Makes me want to buy a deep fryer.  ;)

Where do you launch on Lake Goodwin?

Next to my Hobie, the deep fryer is my favorite purchase I've made! I launched from Wenberg park. There is a small rocky beach next to the boat launch that I used. It cost $7 for day use, but my parents have a yearly membership so it's free for me.  Just troll on either side of the launch and you will catch fish.

Dear lord don't buy a deep fryer. Food just tastes too damn good. Lol.

Beer batter is so easy. Really just beer and flour.

I've eaten so much fried food since we got our deep fryer. One of the best investments ever unfortunately from a utilization point of view.
