Hey everybody,

Long time lurker first time poster! Finally got my hands on a used kayak (2018 Hobie Outback in Seagrass Green) after many months of looking for a good deal this winter.

I've spent the last couple years on/off targeting salmon in rivers within an 1hr-1.5hr drive around King County and greatly enjoying it whenever I was lucky enough to have success. What led me to this forum and ultimately to purchasing a kayak was the morning my wife and I spent in our sea kayak off Whidbey Island casting jigs at pink salmon. It was easily one of the most fun, exciting, beautiful experiences I have ever had and I immediately knew I had to get more of that in my life  :)

Now that I have a kayak I'm really looking forward to trolling and mooching for salmon, as well as going for some lingcod and dungies. I already have a drysuit, pfd and other safety gear from sea kayaking.

Any advice whether it's about my specific kayak, salmon trolling, safety or anything else is greatly appreciated!

Thanks
2018 Hobie Outback

Welcome!  If you are in any need of Hobie or fishing gear come down to Outdoor Emporium in Seattle to see me, we are the largest Hobie dealer in the area.  I'm always up to chat about kayak fishing and what has worked and not worked for me.  I'm usually at the store on Thu/Fri/Sun/Mon.

Welcome! I'm planning to target lingcod tomorrow off Alki beach. Launching from Don Armeni, and catching bait flounder, then going down to an artificial reef south of the lighthouse. If you're able, I'd be happy to show what I know. :-)

That sounds great  8) What time were you thinking?

I should mention that the only rods I have at the moment are 9'0" 8-17lb 3/8-1oz spooled with 40lb braid - still haven't got around to buying any kayak specific rods as I just got my kayak two weekends ago. Would I be able to make these work even though they're not ideal?

I think that could work. I can also pack an extra rod with me that should serve if you'd like. I will be at Alki Beach Park around 5:30.

Tomorrow has gotten busier than I would've liked, appreciate the offer though and would love to go in the future! Will probably get the yak out tomorrow on Lake Union just to get my bearings on it and figure out if I need a cart, etc. Best of luck tomorrow!
