After a three year hiatus (kid, work, moving, covid), I'm looking to check out Cathedral or Sellwood Park sometime during the next week or two. Specifics TBD (with flexibility). Anyone interested?

I'd say we'd be targeting salmon, but I'll mostly be out there to relearn my fish finder, rigging, and everything else that goes with trolling.

Not 100% sold on either location if you've got a hot lead. But I'm not looking to stray too far from Beaverton.

Edit:

After discussion, it looks like we're leaning on:

Friday, 6/04 (Cathedral Park; 10 AM launch; I'm planning to arrive by 9:30; will target the two tidal transition periods--see below)

Saturday, 6/05
(Cathedral Park, 10:30 AM launch)

I might be able to do a weekday.
I have fished both locations once, in the past month or so.
Struck out on salmon both times, but after not getting any around Cathedral, I peddled down to Swan and got a few sturgeon, so at least got a few fights.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Updated original post with additional details.

Sounds like we'll figure the rest out as we get closer to 6/04 and 6/05.

Updating with expected weather and tide tables from Kelley Point. I've heard a few guides suggest fishing here on an incoming tide, with the best bites frequently happening from one hour before to an hour after a tide change. Sunrise can also be another good transitional period.

What SD2OR said re: Friday. I'll probably follow him to Swan when he/we get bored.

There's so far also at least one other person potentially interested in Saturday.

What would be your suggested trolling gear setup be for the area?

I'm certainly no expert, but apparently the thing to do, is troll with 12+ oz weight, with a 360 flasher, and spinner or superbait type plug.
I have my 2nd rod permit, so I will run one spinner, and one plug.
Fish are most likely suspended.
Lots of good articles and videos online.

I won't be able to make launch time today. I work grave yard shift. I'm good to go for Saturday (barring any OT) . Best of luck and tight lines... Waiting for the after action report

6/04 SD2OR and I launched at Cathedral Park and trolled North to the mouth of the Multnomah Channel. Saw about 30 boats or so, with most of those near the Multnomah Channel. We then trolled back to Cathedral Park, doing a few double-passes along the way. Eventually followed SD2OR to the dry-docks and checked out some of the ships there.

Talked to a few of the passing boats as we went. No one had seen a salmon caught or fought that day. I saw two jump/roll as we were going along. But otherwise nothing, and only a few blips on the fish-finder. Water surface temperature was 68-71. Otherwise, was a great day on the water.

was planning on joining Sat am, but plans got shot. Looking at a Sunday trip depending on how folk do Sat so would love reports. If it stays slow, I may head to Merwin for some Kokanee.
