Been off the water and off the forum for a while but finally made it out on Wednesday. Went out about a mile just before high slack and first fish was a 55 lb. beast. Everything went fairly smooth other than when I got it up to the surface and tried to harpoon it, I must have hit the spine because the tip bounced off the fish and it went absolutely ape shit and almost spooled me. Never underestimate the power of those things. Anyway, it was a good trip, caught another chicken and was off the water in a couple hours. Good luck everyone, hopefully see some of you out there this summer.

Awesome! I am hoping to try some nearshore down here off Nehalem later this year if nice calm days line up with my days off.

Congrats on the nice fish and for getting back out on the water!!!!! Do you remember the depth Range you were in? I have been doing pretty good at 55-75 feet.

Thanks! I was in about 60 foot which does seem like the sweet spot out there.

Nice catch! I'm jealous, been out at whiskey a few times this year and haven't caught anything over 15 pounds.
