Title: First Springer Trip
Post by: Beer_Run on March 22, 2024, 08:54:30 AM
Thinking about making the first trip of the year for Springers on Saturday. Has anyone been out, or thinking about getting out? Deciding between Head of the Channel, Gilbert River or Austin Point. Still early but was cycling by the Willamette yesterday and it looks great. Also, fish are starting to trickle over Bonneville and Willamette Falls.

Was thinking of hitting Austin Point on Saturday or Sunday. The reports have been abysmal but saw a post yesterday about multiple sea lions munching on salmon there.

I’m planning on getting out this weekend. Either Austin Pt or Blurock. Leaning towards Blurock as Austin Pt can be quite the cluster

I ll be launching from Willow Bar on Sauvie's tomorrow around 8.30 and fish the OR side of the Columbia. Springer season opener for me too. Outgoing tide all morning so it will be a good workout:-)

Landed on hitting the head of the channel 8-9a through low tide. Heard of some fish caught in the lower channel and I like the advantage of two rods with barbs  :). Good luck out there and looking forward to some success photos. Only question is NOT will I forget something, only what is it I will forget!

No action that i saw or heard of on the Columbia today. As per fish checker a few were caught around Coon Island.

Fished at the head of the channel from 9-1p. No luck for me other than getting off the water in the nick of time to avoid a torrential downpour. Otherwise, great conditions and the river looked great. 51 degrees. No luck for me, but heard of 4 being caught early, saw one keeper and one wild landed.

I'm planning on getting out at least a couple times this next Fri - Mon...just haven't decided where yet...considering going across from austin pt to fish the lower channel, HOC area, or maybe somewhere on the Columbia...

Early season tends to be better around Sellwood, Hawthorn Reef and Coon Island.

Personally, I'm waiting for April.   ;D

I've fished Austin point, Willow Bar, and Sellwood so far. Seems like the Willamette is the better place to be rn. Nothing was happening on the Columbia and I only marked a couple salmon looking things. Marked a lot by Willamette Park but no biters.
