Headed to Hobuck this weekend 8/13-8/16

Kind of new to Kayak fishing, been fishing from canoes and SIKs for the last couple years, and just picked up an OK Scupper Pro, which I will rig up this week.

Wanted to know a few things about the area: Is there a good sheltered area to launch at the beach?  Does one need a drysuit or wetsuit even in the summer?

Any chance of salmon fishing there as well as bottom fish?

This is my first post here, thanks for all the info!

My family and I are up in Sekiu right now, near Hobuck Beach but not that far around the Peninsula.  We fished out on a beach called Shipwreck Point, which is a well-known kayak angler put-in.  We watched a fellow yesterday fish out of his Malibu Kayak and catch a rock fish.  When I caught up with him later he said he'd caught 5 rocks and a few lings.  I got all excited and went out later in the day, around 2 PM.  It was the first shake-down cruise in my Hobie Outback.  She handled well and I got into the bass immediately but only caught one small ling, which I released.  I'm going back out there today.  Whoo-hoo!!!  I'll try to take pics.

It's typically a surf launch, depending on weather and swell.

The water temp is still cold in the summer.  Always dress for immersion.

The Makah fish hatchery is on Sooes Creek which dumps into the bay.  I wouldn't be surprised to find salmon "out front".

Welcome!

The previous post asked about what sort of suit to wear.  I've got a dry suit, and two wetsuit.  One of my wetsuits is a 3 mm and the other thicker.  I'm using the 3 because I anticipate getting wet and then staying out of the water, but a suit is what I would deem necessary in these waters since the mean temperature hovers around 50 degree fahrenheit.  Even with a 3 mm wetsuit, it's dicey if long term exposure becomes a happenstance.

you will have a blast and are sure to catch lots of rockfish. Here are some pics and video. Feel free to pm me if you have question. The surf launch is not bad but do plan on dumping it( tie down or stow your gear when coming in). have fun. doug
