Some nice size rock fish there!

We also spotted a small Mola Mola on the surface which was cool to see!

Got on the water around 7am to troll for salmon. Conditions were supposed to be great, instead they were … not.  There was about an hour lull in the wind/waves and guy I trolling with caught a nice large coho.  I didn’t get a single bit.  Conditions got worse, fog rolled in and so headed in to bottom fish on leeward side of Haystack Rock.  I come around the corner and, in a patch the size of several football fields, were 15 kayaks!

I caught a few rockfish on a fly rod, let some go, gave the rest away.  Probable peddled under 10 miles but with the sea conditions, combined with a 2 hour drive, it was an exhausting day.

It was also the first time I was on my Outback after fishing from a Revo for 5 years so it was nice to get blood on the boat.

No kidding there. I had misplaced my Dramamine but figured I'd be fine. I was not and hit my new personal record: 4 chumfests--one for every chonky rockfish I caught. Apparently leaning forward and putting pressure on the stomach was the ticket to a bad time.  ;D

Wednesday was my first ocean adventure.  I was a bit unsure about what to expect and wondering about my abilities.  Launching, fishing and landing all went without incident.  It was so enjoyable and productive (2 rockfish and 1 ling) that the decision was made to go for Thursday.  Much different conditions with the chop and the winds. Fished the north of the rock and caught several cabezon, sub lings, and some nice rockfish!
The experience at the launch was incredible with the kayaks and dory boats, a very busy spot for so early in the morning!!
Out on the water it was great seeing the tupperware armada, every direction you looked there were kayaks!
Met kayakers in the parking lot, on the beach and out on the water.
Two wonderful days on the ocean and brought home some nice fish.  I can't wait to go out again!!
