Title: Columbia Success
Post by: Beer_Run on August 18, 2022, 03:14:58 PM
First trip out this fall. Pretty slow going all morning but managed to get one to the boat. Great morning. 74 degrees at 6am and no wind.

Very nice.
We're going to need the detail though ;)
I'm looking at breaking my Columbia cherry and hit Austin Point this weekend.

I am currently contemplating where I should go Saturday. I have three options, PC, Buoy 10 or Austin point. Did you mark a lot of fish at Austin? Looking at the reports, Wednesday was hot at Buoy 10 so I figure by now that fish should arrive to Austin.

I don't think you can make a mistake with any of those. Fishing was really slow at Austin yesterday so I was just lucky. I heard rumors that it had been pretty good earlier in the week, so go figure. I like the 1-hour drive vs the 2-hour drive so will probably fish Austin on Sunday and may sneak out this afternoon and try some wobbler fishing on the outgoing tide just for grins.

Good luck to you! I am still undecided. The PC forecast keeps changing and while it appears to be fishable, that secondary swell bugs me a bit. Last time I went out it was similar conditions but the secondary swell created a washing machine conditions with the way it collided with primary. Definitely fishable but not very comfortable. The fog doesn't bother me. Looking at you in the picture, the shorts, sunny weather and shorter drive really appeal to me. I am very indecisive today...

Went back to AP yesterday and it was very slow. Did 6 hours trolling and only saw 3 fish landed. I hear Astoria was on fire again yesterday. May go there Sunday.

Fished AP from 10 am to 1 pm today. No love for me or anyone else that i saw....I was expecting to see at least a few fish getting caught.

We ended up going to PC on Saturday. My first-timer buddy got sea sick pretty much as soon as we launched. Started trolling near the rock and came upon a school of rock fish so thick that I actually snagged one on the back with salmon gear :-) Then we proceeded west to around 170 FOW and I got a nice size coho only to have him jump out of the net :-( By this time my buddy was miserable so we ended up hitting one of the bottom fish spots on the way in and he got rewarded with a very nice size ling. 5 minutes later his rod buried in the water and I thought it was a halibut but it ended up a monster female ling.  I quickly caught my limit of lings and we headed home. Landing was uneventful but beach was full of people and kids were amazed with big lingcods. I want to go fishing again :-)
