Wowza! Helluva fish Nate! Did you harpoon him or what?
-
Nice!
Forecast for next weekend looks pretty good so far.

Great catch! I bet it was exciting to deal with :-) Was is out of PC? Also, what are those white things? I am highly motivated to catch a halibut this summer at PC so any tips are appreciated.

Thanks man! Yeah kill shot with the harpoon, he didn’t fight much after I stuck him

Thanks, they’re always a blast! This was not at PC this was in Washington. The white things are the otoliths! I usually try to take them from all of my halibut and make things out of them

Neah Bay?

Neah Bay?
Sheesh just let the guy be cagey. Not speaking for him but some folks are quiet for a reason: It really sucks when you drive up to your launch spot to find some asshole has somehow taken up 5 parking spots with his one truck and trailer.

Sounds like Snow Creek for the last 2 years or so

I had to look up "otolith"..... "An otolith (Greek: ὠτο-, ōto- ear + λῐ́θος, líthos, a stone), also called statoconium or otoconium or statolith, is a calcium carbonate structure in the saccule or utricle of the inner ear, specifically in the vestibular system of vertebrates." Now I am clear as mud. ??? Very nice halibut!

lol. I am not trying to get the exact spot as even knowing few general areas at PC I still haven't caught one. Speaking to few people that hooked into them, they were not targeting halibut specifically; all were bycatch. Although, if author wanted to share the exact spot that would be appreciated.

Everyone is free to do their thing. In my world I don't ask and I certainly would never share, that's the code.
Great halibut by the way. Still haven't got one myself and every year the thought of catching one grows a little bigger in the back of my mind. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm going make a wild guess that he caught that beauty in the Salish Sea. ;D lol

Nice halibut!! Thanks for sharing.
I spent the evening rigging up halibut gear in the garage, dreaming of hooking my first from a kayak. Cheers for the inspiration!
Related to spot sharing requests - these may be best done over PMs/email. Just a suggestion. This forum does a great job of not giving away valuable spot-nuking information to public/external lurkers, while also encouraging fellow kayakers to get together to fish, sometimes in some really special locations. One of the reasons I really enjoy this community - let's keep it that way!
