Events / Biggest bass fishing tournament in the NW?!
« Last post by williamesch on May 18, 2025, 05:05:49 PM »
Hey folks!

Been a long time since I've posted on here, but want to share these events if you haven't heard. 2 weeks from now will be a joint tournament:

ATTENTION ANGLERS! THE TIME IS NOW!

The next tournament will be here before you know it.

Think of the potential:

Two tournaments running in conjunction. When we hit 100 anglers the payouts will be the biggest in KFNW history!

If you take 1st in KFNW ( hell if you make top 10) you will get paid, and likely you will also get a hourly big big for the native event. The potential to win $10,000 is there!

Just saying....Don't miss out!

I know a lot of you won't be interested, but hope to see a few more familiar face on the bass fishing side.

Thanks folks!

I think we've got to consider just how stagnant our west coast fish yakking retail has become in general. Yeah plenty people buy rec yaks and fish from them but the high high prices that are now prevalent in the industry from the likes of old towne, hobie, et al are pushing people away. So our retailers are seriously suffering.

Add into this that the days of truly oceanic capable human powered fishing craft are behind us. Nobody wants a boat bigger than 13 feet because they're "heavier" or " too hard to manage" . Truth is, the modern " fishing kayak", while shorter, wider, and " more modern in convenience",  is now 25 to 50 lbs heavier than, say, the old Ocean Kayak T 15 or Wilderness Systems Tarpons In some cases, that's more like 60-70 lbs more..

But, nobody is buying. Or, if they are, it's the cheapest, most minimalist thing they can find from Temu or Ali Babba.

In the 17 years I've been doing this, (some of you truly old hands are pushing, what, 25 years?) we've watched our retail capacity on the west coast shrink to almost nothing. Retirements, buy outs, consolidations, with only minimal backfill by people willing to take the chance, have pretty much devastated the supporting infrastructure of the sport out here.

Honest I don't hold anything against the owners of NA. They've done so much for the community in general over the years, far more than a few others. Good luck to all of them.

yeah I know this is an old thread. Didn't want to start a new one.

If you're looking for a transportation system for your yak, and want an alternative to Thule, Malone or Yakima and boondox there's now 'tooenjoy".

Here's the YouTube video from paddling news or whatever it is.

Agree it's sad to see to see Next Adventure closing. Also, Outdoor Play in Hood River is having a big sale and I wonder if it was caused by Next Adventure closing? https://www.outdoorplay.com/

Yea, seem like acces for that launch is for dry storage renters. There is spot, close to it, Historic mill creek site, but will be muddy with low tide. Is there a chance to pay upfront for parking?

I'd launch at sunnyside, but there's a boat launch in the creek next to the railroad tracks, never got around to asking who owns if it could use it. It shouldn't be good for chinook until August.

As BugBoy said thanks to Next Adventure for their part in the kayak fishing and outdoor communities. Hoping maybe West Coast Sailing will expand their offerings now.

This speaks volumes about retail in Portland - it's a tough place for any business.

NA will be missed.
