I have not kayaked since early summer because of health problems but should be ready to go in 2017. I think I'll pass on the Homer Derby this year unless we have weather in the 40s. I frozen my butt of last year and for me it was more of an endurance experience best left to younger folks. I will be on the water as soon as I can. I would like to get a Salmon Shark this year and I think I have a large mother ship lined up for support. I wouldn't mind a taxi camping trip in 2017 and I would be up for any kayak adventure so I'll watch the forum for something I can invite myself to. I got a new lease on life and intend to use it to great advantage in 2017. All the AK Kayakers I have met in the last 4 years have all been great folks that I would enjoy hanging out with in a pub or on the water.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Best Wishes for All in 2017.

Glad to hear you have your batteries recharged and a full tank of enthusiasm for the coming season. :) I too look forward to shaking hands with all the "old timers" who have been the pioneers of saltwater kayaking in Alaska as well as meeting all the newbies like myself who have joined this non-powered sport recently.
Perhaps one of the first "events" this Spring could be a "Meet & Greet" gathering to get acquainted, renew friendships, compare notes and spend some time on the water for a shake down cruise to wipe the cobwebs off the boats, gear, and tackle.
It really doesn't have to be a Peninsula saltwater event either. But perhaps meet in the middle, like at Summit Lake where its equal distance from Anchorage, Seward, and Soldotna. Carpooling with snowmachine trailers can move a lot of folks and boats for the price of one. OR maybe even a gathering at Portage Lake after ice out for a trip to the glacier area! That would probably generate a lot of interest. And there is good parking at the launch location.
I too wish everyone a safe and fun new season to come. Gaining 45 seconds of daylight every day now!! Won't be long!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Loved my first year with a kayak. Met a lot of great folks. Would love to attend another gathering of those salty folks.
