Sunday, March 29, 18 - fishing in West Vancouver off Ambleside park. No fish, but very nice day to be on the water.

Lots more to kayak fishing than catching. Great to see every time someone acknowledges it. (Not that catching isn’t great, but ...)

Looks nice, Yakfisher. I’ve been out once so far this season, west of Sooke looking for halibut. (same deal: no luck but a nice day to be out.) Here’s the launch at Muir Creek.

I do a LOT more fishing than I do catching...  And *every* day I'm out on the water is a good day.   :) :) :) :)

Went out about 2 weeks ago in my friends boat.  3 Salmon, 1 Skate, a few rock fish... NO HALIBUT.  We kept 2 Salmon and the rest went back into the water.

I was out April 27 in the Harbour in the morning.  Was going to head to the Bell but decided to jut troll around the freighters.  Didn't see much on the sounder and no fish but first shake down cruise of the year so it was very nice...

Thanks for update. I'm thinking to try in two weeks @ Sunset Beach, past Horseshoe Bay.
I'll stop @ Sunset Marina this weekend to see if it's ok to park there in 2 weeks.

Have yu tried fishing there before?  Or - furry creek area?  The tricky part is not knowing where to put in.  Every mile matters!

Never fished there before, but l would love to try. As you said - the biggest problem is where to put in. Most of the shore is ether private access or steep rocks. Horseshoe Bay too busy and then you have all ferries. I did Google around and looks to me that Sunset Marina (https://goo.gl/maps/dSspphFnTJC2) would be a place to try. There is a parking fee, but it would be easy to put in and no ferries or crowds. Lions Bay Marina could be another option, but it's in rock fish conservation area (https://goo.gl/maps/ak1ffHhzKSn). And Furry area is hardly accessible too.

I think thats actually a pretty good plan - to fish Sunset.  If you make your way back to 'Hole in the Wall' - towards Horseshoe Bay you might time it right for fish in the area.  I know some big Chinook hang around there in May and they can be up in the water column...looks like Hole in the Wall is only about a mile and a half or so from Sunset.

It is deep there for sure but the guys that fish that spot ususally focus on 130 or so feet of water and around this time of year they catch salmon in the 60-80 foot range or even shallower so you might get lucky.  Are you using a rigger or how are you fishing?

Those look interesting.  What do you typically run for lure / bait?  How long have you been kayak fishing?  have you had much success with Chinook in the Vancouver area? I usually run a dipsy diver - but these look way better.  I keep my boat at Jericho so usually head out to the Bell.  Haven't had a ton of success so far but thinking of a three day trip to Lasquiti area towards the end of the month.
