Hey everyone.  I am new to the forum and also new to kayaking! I picked up a Sportsman pdl 120 and I am loving it. I've only had my kayak for just over a month and my trips have been mostly to Haag lake as I am currently up in Hillsboro. Looking forward to reading the community content and hopefully gaining a new set of kayaking friends!

You’re in the right spot, welcome, I’m in Tillamook and should be in shape to hit the bay starting next spring. Keep an eye out for open invites.

Welcome-

I too am on the west side not far from Hillsboro.  Hope to see you on the water.  Reach out if you have questions about the local options.  Salmon season is still going but will fade out soon.  Hagg lake is a great place to get comfortable on the kayak and has good stocked trout.  I like catching a limit for crab bait.

Welcome to the NWKA PhoFish.  Be sure to use the search feature as there is a tone of great information on the site.  I do recommend checking out the safety stuff as fishing in our plastic boats does come with some risks.......

I was out on the Siletz by Ichwhit a week or so ago, but just some fish jumping around and lots of Sculpin. Any good winter water? or is it time to put the Kayak up for the season?

Plenty of winter fishing to be had when conditions allow.  Haag lake gets stocked into the fall and in mid winter including some Brooders in December (I think, I've caught one in Dec).  Bonus is you'll have many fewer people to share the lakes with in winter.  I get Winchester Bay all to myself in January while having to share with dozens of other boats in summer and September (something about salmon).

Need to be prepared though.  Immersion gear is a must.  Cold water and cold air are a bad mix. Know what conditions are okay for you.    Being miserable is no fun.  What is tolerable for one person may suck for another.  for example my hands get cold easy.  I have an extensive glove collection that allows me to get out in a variety of conditions.  And of course, a friend makes every trip safer.

As someone else mentioned , avail yourself of the search function, but for amusement as well as information.  Specifically,  look up Häag Lake , as well as Diary of a Madman. Plenty of fun to had there.
