The Portland Crew had their roll call, now it's time for ours. Who here is from the greater Seattle area? I live in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle.

I have a home and a family in Bothell Wa. It's N.E. of Seattle, S.E. from Everett. Just a few miles from the north end of Lake Wa.
Sometimes I get to stay there for lengthy periods. For now I'm "doing time" in Oklahoma.

AFAIK, I am the sole member on Vashon. There are a couple kayak fishers I see occasionally in Quartermaster harbor, tho.

:icon_scratch: having a C.R.A.F.T. moment here. would you redefine "greater seattle area"? :dontknow:

Loose definition defined however you want to define it. If you think you are "close enough", then you are!!!

I'm way out on the fringes of the Seattle influence... way farther east than Yarjammer. ::) I do get to the wetside semi-irregularly.
-
Likewise here, much farther north than would qualify for Seattle, but I make it down at least once a month. How many of us are Everett or farther North?

Tandem Yak is the only Kayak fishing in Everett's Possession Sound.
I have fished over 50 miles of the estuary.

Welcome aboard TY!
Tandem Yak is the only Kayak fishing in Everett's Possession Sound.
That's a lot of water... and you're the only one? Wow, sounds like an open invite is in order so that some of us can paddle out with you next time.
It will be great! The quiet solitude you're used to, replaced by the friendly banter between fellow kayakers, e.g., "Whoa, dude! Was that hat on your wife's side of the closet!? Just kidding man, it looks great on you.. it goes perfect with that ladies life vest you're wearing!"

It would be cool to get some more local knowledge. What's your favorite fishery in the area, TY?

I like to birth at the Everett Marina and head North around Jetty island. I troll while heading toward Gendy (Hat) Island. This is where you get the salmon coming and going from the estuary. Off the SW tip of the island is a fish haven (sunken ships) and a major jetty drop off. I throw out the drift anchor and sit in the general area.
There is a lot of open water and it would be great to get a group together. The Estuary is ideal for a kayak. There are a lot of areas that only a kayak can get to.

TY, forgive me if this is a stupid question; what does birth mean? I assume it means "launch" but I came up empty when I did a 'nautical terms' search. I'm hoping it has a special definition applicable only to kayaks.
Many years ago, the bar between Camano Head and Gedney Island was an almost sure thing for blackmouth. Back then I did best trolling Silver Horde plugs. What do you use?
- Karl
-
I believe "berth" is the nautical term you're looking for. It usually describes a location in a marina or port where you leave your boat tied up. It can also mean a bed onboard a boat.
-
Brian hit it- I've also heard used loosely as a term for any over night or resting place.
I'd be into fishing that area on one of my trips over to the wetside. There's some "zipper" species I'd like to try for, close in. ::)
-
Sorry for the confusion. I did misspell Berth.
Wikipedia: Berth is the term used in ports and harbours to define a specific location where a vessel may be berthed, usually for the purposes of loading and unloading.

I don't know if any of us are purist enough to give up all PB play, so I wouldn't be so sorry.

Hello everyone, new guy checking in from the Marysville area. Been fishing out of kayaks for a while now but new to this part of the country. Lots to learn but hey, that's part of the fun! Had to leave my SOT in L.A. (Lower Alabama) but I have a Sit in Type and recently purchased a 14' Wenonah Fisherman canoe. Pretty good fishing machine but I can see now I may have to get a SOT for the salt.
Looking forward to seeing y'all on the water.

Somehow I ended up in Grayland, midway between Gray's Harbor and Willapa Bay. I'm a lo-o-o-ong way from Seattle. I haven't set foot in Seattle in over ten years, although I did drive thru there on Eyesore5 a couple of times back around the turn of the century, on my way to visit a GF of mine who lived near Bellingham. >:D >:D >:D >:D (that's 4 out of a possible 5)
Can't seem to ever make it N of Oly. I like the O.P. as well as my local S coastal rivers, estuaries and bays surrounding the Twin Harbors area. I like the SW area of the state, around Mt. St. Helens. Will float the Cowlips in the late Summer and Fall. Also I like to fly fish lakes.
I usually fish as close to home as I can find good fishing, so I spend less time driving and more on the water.
I don't have any paddling buddies here. I don't know anybody else locally who fishes and paddles...just know of a lot of paddlers who just like to be on the water viewing Nature.
I'm looking to get me a 13' Trident and then try to get an old surf buddy interested in yak fishing with me. Until then, I can't even rely on the "buddy system" for peace of mind. Not that I ever needed it in a lower river, lake, or estuary...might be a good thing for the ocean and harbor entrance, though it would be an inconvenience to have to interrupt my fishing to go rescue a buddy.
All my go-outs have been (and most likely will continue to be) solo excursions. One good thing about this is that I see at least ten or twenty times more wildlife (up close) by not moving my lips in my conversations with myself, as I would if I were talking with a buddy, spooking everything just around the next bend. Also, I get first crack at all the fishy water I find.
It would be fun to share some of my local haunts with other paddling anglers sometime. Late Summer and Fall are best for the Searun Cutts.
I like the warmer days of Summer and Fall for hunting down searun cutthroat in my local estuaries and tidal creeks.
Lots of my local streams close for the season after today. I should be fishing! Why ain't I? ??? Maybe its the lousy pesky winds 15 - 20+ knot gusts!

I'll be from the westside. Port Orchard. I am new to the website and kayak fishing. I was pointed here by huntinhick (Carl). Thanks man.
I grew up in Lousiana (thus the Coonass) so fishing is not something new to me. However, the fishing up here is much different than the fishing in the swamps. Really looking forward to getting out this year.
The wife and I just bought a Prowler 13 and 15. Now it's time to rig those babies..
Looking forward to sucking you guys dry for information.

Another newbie, just got my yak and am headed to Blackmans lake this morning to try it out. I'm in the Lake Stevens area so if anybody is interested in having a rookie tag along give me a shout.

Where in LA? My best friend lived in NOLA until he unexpectedly died a few years ago. Katrina and Rita wiped out some real estate we owned and the aftermath literally killed him. I've spent a fair bit of time in and around NOLA and done a bit of redfish and trout fishing out of Delacroix.
I just took delivery of a T13 Angler and kayak fishing is new to me also. I've never been in a kayak and my boat has yet to get wet. I've been trying to drink from the firehose, and everyone here has been most accommodating and patient.
I live in Shoreline and am nearly a life-long mossback. To give you an idea of how long I've lived in the greater Seattle area, I remember when the I-90 / I-405 interchange was called the Highway 10 / 405 intersection and it was a 4-way stop. No shit. I remember the Bellevue airport, God rest its soul. And the Issaquah airport and parachute center.
Started fishing with my father as a child, picked it back up in my 30s including a bit of fly fishing, then picked it back up in my 50s. Never owned a boat, and have fished from a boat infrequently. I've been a shore fisherman, and keep some gear on Maui at a friend's place. Been catching salmon from Richmond Beach park, Bush point, the Snohomish river, and other assorted locales. I've caught squid off the Edmonds pier, and some crabbing around Whidbey. Have done some bass and walleye fishing in eastern WA. Mostly I fish rather than catch :-)
A buddy and I had been planning to buy a boat, but with the economy affecting his business and putting my job at risk we nixed that idea. Been seeing a lot of kayak fisherman in Hawaii and a couple of weeks ago it struck me to try it here. Figured even if I lost the job, I'd need something to do. After ordering my boat I found this forum. I am itching to get out on the water and learn to paddle, and am just waiting on delivery of proper attire. Got a number of competing hobby/obsessions and this spring/summer/fall should see me keeping busy.

I'd like to give a "shout-out" to all my Pac-Beach yak fish'n gangstas :occasion14:... oh wait, there are none :BangHead:!!!

I grew up in Pacific Beach...California, that is. Actually, on my first bike tour around the Olympics, I spent an afternoon in a laundromat drying out everything I had following 6 hours of pouring rain.

I'm kinda new to Yak fishing, and I live in Renton not too very far from the south end of lake washington! Greetings all!

Hello,
I thought this would be a good place to say hi. I am new to Seattle coming from the South so fishing is a little different here. I live in Queen Anne and trying to find some good places to go bass fishing (large or smallmouths) near by. I have a Ocean Prowler Drifter so I am looking for for lakes. If anyone has moved from the south to the NW and have any suggestions about the fishing difference, I would love the advice.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the water.

First suggestion, read and understand the regs. I grew up in Louisiana. Fresh and Salt regs were simple in LA.
Most places up here for LMB is 5 under 12"s and 1 over 17 my be retained; SMB: no min size, only 1 over 14"s my be retained with a daily limit of 10.
there is another discussion about bass lakes on here. Look for the smaller lakes that warm up quicker. Just like in the south, afternoon top water action is always the best.
Welcome and enjoy.

Welcome to the Great Pacific Northwest. Where from in the South? I've only fished redfish and trout in the north Gulf out in the marsh. That kind of salt water fishing is very different from what is done here. Of course the Gulf marsh is shallow and Puget Sound and the ocean is deep. Puget Sound is over 900 feet at it's deepest. Even in the open Gulf the water does not get very deep. We bottom fish here down to a few hundred feet. Actually, because of the geologic processes which created the topography of the GPNW most of our lakes are in flooded valleys and probably much deeper than you are used to.
I think there is much more trolling up here too, but I am not certain.

New to the forum but will be in a boat on the water very soon. Living on Browns Point, the 4 min walk to the water is killing me.............

Pretty much anywhere. North side ... gasworks to the houseboats to the east. East side, coves that shallow up to shore. The shipping canal (both sides) to under the Fremont bridge. South side, deeper water wood structure, if you're marking schools here, but don't get a hookup, try a crappie jig as they are most likely crappie.

Hi All,
I just am new to the board. Live in Wallingford, but spend the summer on Lopez Island and fish often from a 17' PB. Just started Kayak fishing from an OK Prowler Trident 15.
I notice a lot of folks use the 13, which I demo'ed, but went for the 15 since it is for the san juans only, plus it stays on the water for the season. Hope I got the right yak for my needs. ( I am 5'10 and 155#)
Tracks well with the rudder seems like a good boat.
Been fishing my regular areas and catching fish. I can't say I catch more fish, but I do enjoy the paddle time a bunch!
Current mission is to find some large flounders.
Great forum.
Dean

good morning Dean, and welcome to a place filled with terrific people..
don't 2nd guess yourself regarding your choice of yak and why.. the T13 is a nice boat, but for what you want to do, the 15 will be perfect.
have fun in the san juans.. a recent get together by group members here proved that there is still good fishing there.

I just bought a kayak from PolePole and took it out on Lake Union this morning. Since I'm new to kayaking, I'm looking forward to the next week or two of getting used to the kayak and finding out what I'm comfortable with. After that, I can't wait to get out on the salt and do some fishing. I love fishing for lings (mostly catch and release) and salmon. Would anybody be interested in going out in the sound with me later this month and showing me the ropes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! David
Oh yeah, I live in North Seattle.
-
new guy, living in the wedgwood area - just picked up 2 kayaks on saturday -
13 ft trident for the lady @ REI sale for ~700, she loves to fish with me
12 ft tarpon 120 demo for ~700 for me
of course the kayaks were the least expensive things we had to buy...wow - while its a simple sport - its pretty complicated to get going ( i won't talk about the loading logistics for a 60lb 12ft boat when you need to do it by yourself)
yesterday was just pratice with the boat on shore and off - loading/unloading, roof rack(s) hell, padling basics - jumping in to see how hard it is to climb back in - simple actually - we didnt do the turn it over test yet though
and, today we ended the weekend with our first few bass EVER, and in the kayaks -we both hooked up a few - pretty cool and great logistics practice playing with the small fish - takes alot of coordination - can't wait to hook some big fish

antpo.... As they all say welcome to the Cure.......
I have a T-13 and i love it.. So i think your lady will to.. Congrats on the Bass. Next time you go out let us know on the board you might get a few more people to go with you and show you some pointers if ya want.

I'm in Leshi and just got my 1st yak I can fish with....Hobie Outfitter
I Won't be a dedicated fishing machine but want to add fish finder and maybe a down rigger when I take it out in the sound on my other boat.
Will mainly chase smallies in and around the Lake Union/Portage Bay area....I think
I'm new to the NW so would love advice on the area.

Hey everyone, wow, this group and forum are great, I've been lurching on the site a bit and absorbing what I can. Seems like a great group of folks. Got my Yak a month or two ago, why did I wait so long!? Already had it on mountain lakes, the sound, and Lake Washington (despite advice to the contrary I went with an OK tandem so the 3 kids can tag along, actually had all 3 on board fishing Rattlesnake Lake). Live in Central Seattle... Grew up fly fishing mountain rivers, so terms like jig, plug cut herring, and hootchies are a bit foreign. Planning to fish for Pinks in the next week...took me awhile to figure out what the difference between a Pink and a Humpy is (go figure, same fish).... Look forward to fishing with some of you all soon. Jon
-
I'm lots late for the muster but here goes-
Another newbie here, hail from Eatonville, but as the crow flies I am a lot closer to SEA than PDX.
I just got my first yak... the OK Trident 13. This month I hit 46 fricken yrs. old but my first boat, go figure. Almost went with the more sleek Prowler (always the minimalist) but think the dry ride of the T13 will keep me warmer in the sound and maybe better for hauling crab pots?
I'm a NW'nr born and raised, but was almost always stuck fishing for flounder from a pier. Will be hittin some foothill lakes for some initiation over the next week or so, then try for some kokes just for practice. Really anxious to get out in some salt though.
-
Welcome to the forum. I also have a T13 and have used it often this season for crab. Check the archives. If you have questions, ask. With everyone's help here I got my Puget Sound crabbing pretty well dialed in.
-
Yaky Y...... i and WR are in Graham. if you want a good mellow lake to practice on and to play on Check out Rapjohn thats close to us. its a small lake and decently warm and has some trout and bass in in it. also Harts lake out towards Mckenna is a good one to ..
If you ever want company give us a shout.

Thanks for making me feel welcome guys! Couldn't log in (yaky yak) so I am Drool now.
I made my first paddle voyage since 1984 today. Was all alone on the west parts of Alder lake trying to get my sea legs with new kayak. Beautiful day, breezy at times though and had to avoid getting turned around by the wind a few times. I can't describe the stealthy, quiet experience as I saw kokanee jumping just a few yards away, and a salamander surfacing next to the yak as I made my way along a rocky shoreline.
Water is just cool enough, and low vis., so I couldn't be 100% sure I wouldn't stub my toe on a sub-surface stump. Needless to say I wasn't thrilled about the task at hand and I made a few half-baked attempts to tip the T13 over. Pretty stable yak, but I would soon learn the limits.
The T13 is nice with the comfort backrest, but I found it little hard on the backside after a couple of hours. I thought I'd try crouching on my knees for a few so pulled my legs under me and crouched onto my toes - and splash! It happened that fast. Since it was a windy stretch of the lake I reached for my (leashed!) paddle immediately to keep the yak from drifting away. Next I grabbed the side ready to spring from the cool water, but remembered FFTW's story about almost capsizing that way. So I slowed myself down and slithered aboard sort of snake like.
Thanks for the invites squidgirl, demonick, and I may take you up on that once I get gear and stuff in order.

Hello all!
My name is Chuck I hail from Vancouver WA. I lived in Southern Cali most of my life. Most of my fishing has been in the Salt. I’ve fished The Huntington Beach, Catalina and San Diego Areas. Lake fishing is somewhat new to me, but willing to learn! I would love to fish the Salt for Lings, Rock Fish and Salmon and Crab! This Summer 2010.
As well as Fresh for Bass, Salmon, Trout you name it I'll go for it...I love to fish!
I purchased an OK T-13 in October.
I look forward in getting to know some of you guys personally and perhaps do some fresh/saltwater fishing together.
Being new to this sport, it would be great to meet someone willing to show me the ropes.
I have a tent trailer and would be willing to share it with someone while campling/fishing together.
I would love to hook-up with anyone with-in a 3hr from Vancouver

Hey all...
I am sitting here in Juanita Bay overlooking Lake Washington. I have a 16' Easy Rider Canoe for the double days and just got a Wilderness Systems Commander 120 at the end of September for the solo days. I LOVE the Commander! Is my first yak and my intro to yak fishing.

I am new to Kayaking, infact I am so new I do not even own a kayak yet. I have been researching for about 4 years and am now ready to make the plunge. I am going to buy a Hobie (outback or pro angler) I am looking forward to getting into it.

Hello!
This may be a good place to get my feet wet. I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now and figured that it's time to sign up. I live in Marysville around exit 200 off of I-5. Last year my family and I purchased an Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL Angler and we have had a great time using it recreationally. My son and I are working on setting it up so that we can fish. I’ve found some great ideas that came from this site and others on keeping it family friendly and fish deadly at the same time. Unfortunately all that I can do right now is daydream and plan my setup. I'm in the US Coast Guard and currently away from home port through the end of September. Being new to fishing in the area it would be great to hook up with some fellow kayakers for guidance and fishing experience. My internet connectivity while at sea is sketchy underway but I'll be following along.

Greetings from Mukilteo!
This is my first year of 'yakkin, so I'm trying to get as much seat time in as possible during the nice weather. I've been to a couple lakes and the Sound, trying to get a feel for everything and implementing some of the ideas I've learned here on the forum. You'll find me out there in a khaki colored '09 Tarpon 160.
-
I am on SW end of Mercer Island.
I fish Lake Washington for bass, perch, and sockeye (if there is ever an opening) from my kayak. I also have hit a few tidal rivers from it in Pink Salmon Years. Every June since 2006 I fish for a week from a small boat for kings and halibut around Ketchikan, mostly jigging.
I want to get into more places and types of kayak fishing around the Western Washington area and hope to meet up or join anyone's excursions. I am particularly interested in getting out to Neah Bay.
-
Ballard Brad checking in tardy.
New to kayaking, but have been fishing all my life. Bought two Hobie Pro Anglers over Labor Day (one for the girlfriend). I got sick of relying on friends with boats and picked up a copy Kayak Angler Magazine while in the Outerbanks. Great board with loads of information.

New guy to the forum.
Not super new to kayaking, and definitely not new to fishing!
Lived in Montana for 5 years going to school out there and had a Prijon Combi 359 with a spinning rod mount for a while there:
Slayed the trout, had a great time, but when I moved out here I found myself going out less and less partly because the kayak wasn't the easiest to use for fishing. Ended up selling it and until a few weekends ago really hadn't thought about kayak fishing. I got the chance to take a nice sea kayak (sorry, don't remember the name) out on Hood Canal and just had a great time. That sparked my interest to look for something. Well I lucked out big time and found a nice Malibu Extreme on craigslist with a bunch of goodies for a nice price:
I caught the bug and I'm already looking into an anchor setup, a rudder, and possibly some lighting.
Anyways, figured I'd introduce myself and I look forward to seeing what the sound has to offer (for kayak fishing)!
-
Welcome to NWKA! I was wondering who picked that one up from CL.

With all the gear that came with it, it was hard to pass up!

^Yeah that was a sweet deal!
New guy here as well. Was up with Oly884 shrimping when his neighbor brought over some of his yaks and let us take em for a spin, I think the same bug bit me that bit Oly. Because I ended up ordering myself a new Pescador 12.0 last week, west marine just happen to have a sale going, hoping to get it this week sometime. Well I picked up my new Pescador 12 today. $540 out the door, not to bad I think. Also noticed it has a flush mount rod holder on it. Didnt expect that from the pics i'd seen so that was pretty cool. Think Oly and I are gonna hit up some of the local lakes today.
On my WRX disguised as an old 350,000 mile outback sport. Im a subaru nut.

Went out with Trout Slayer yesterday afternoon to a little gem of a lake. Caught a few trout, had to keep one that got hooked in the gills a bit, far from a record, but at least tasty!
Here's my rig:

Working on getting my brother to weld up a rack/mounting system on my camper so I can attach the kayak in a FAR better way. But for now I was pleased to see that this works!

I've found some great ideas that came from this site and others on keeping it family friendly and fish deadly at the same time.
Well, not long after that post, my dad was diagnosed with cancer and my life changed directions. I was also reassigned to TRACEN Yorktown, VA. and I believed for awhile that I was going to have to live as a geographical bachelor for a year or so until I could sell my house and my son could finish up high school. Things were looking pretty grim. My dad is now making a full recovery. I asked the CG assignment officer to keep me in mind for any job openings in the Seattle area so that I could live with my family. Luckily for me a job has opened up in Everett and I will be reporting there August 1st. Win win situation for me. So...back to fishing. Please keep me in mind for any future meetups. I've been rigging my yak and have been doing some lake fishing around the Marysville/North Seattle area. Went shrimping with friends on the shrimping days, my first experience was a blast. 5 of us total five limits. I'm still eating shrimp. I haven't ventured out into the sound yet with the yak and wanted to wait and go with more experienced paddlers.
-
Pir8life. Wondered what happend to you. Glad to hear your Dad is doing better and that you're coming back to the Everett/Marysville area. Know all to well how health & jobs can turn on you in a "New York Minute". PM me and we'll
hookup soon.

New to the forum, great site!
I've had my OK Trident 15 for a year now, and finally got out on the sound for some salmon last weekend. Caught my limit off of Redondo in just over an hour and had a BLAST! Can't wait to get out again!

Checkin in from Arlington....just bought a house further out now in Oso. And recently I picked up an Emotion Mojo angler which I haven't even had the chance to maiden; but I've spent countless hours paddling a Mad River 14 foot canoe while in search of fish......one of these days when I'm done with my 64 hour work weeks, I'll get to actually maiden my new craft...and my dang fishin license I also haven't used yet. Oh well, gotta pay to play.
Dang this is an old post, lol.

Snoqualmie Pass here, Been kayak fishing for about 10+ yrs mostly mountain lakes and east and west side rivers. Spend a lot of time yak fishing in the Gulf in SW florida. But can't belive that I just found this site a few weeks ago as I was Getting ready to head to the warm gulf. Lost of info and sounds like great people on this site, ever looking to fish some mountain lakes hit me up and I can show you around.
Tight lines and chase some tail, John
-
mountains2sound....welcome!!! Hey did you get to fish the oil rigs in the gulf at all or are those only accessible from the south Texas beaches?
Tight lines!!!
-
No oil rigs, but lots of man made reefs about 2 miles offshore, with lots of differet species that lurk around. It's a toss up on what you are going to catch, but only about 90 ft of water.
Thanks John
-
I've been lurking for a while soaking up info. I'm inching closer to buying a yak, so it's about time to post. I'm down in Renton. So far all my fishing has been from shore. I've mostly fished some local lakes for trout, pulled in a few pinks last year from the Puyallup, trapped a few crabs in a friends boat, and dug up razor clams and some steamers. Looking to get a rig to get me out on the water. Glad you are all on here sharing your wisdom!

I'm in Bellevue/Seattle, new to NWKA (and new to the Hobie scene as of yesterday).
I've kayaked for 8'ish years off and on, but ironically, only twice in the Seattle area (both times around Leschi).
Plan on doing some serious exploring this summer. Seeing Juanita Beach from "the other side" would be surreal, as well as getting some GoPro of the seaplanes flying overhead in Kenmore.
-
I'm probably a bit late to this thread but I just registered for the site yesterday. I'm from north lynnwood, south Everett area. Looking forward to some meet ups

I'm new here too, was kinda wondering if there's any meetups. I know there's a few big sailing groups, but not aware of kayak groups around here.
-
this is a weird question but are there ever any meet ups on mon or tues? those are my days off of work since I deliver furniture... lol

Eric here,
I live just north of Seattle.

Laughingsteelhead (wayne). Out of Granite Falls/arlington. Planning on a early snoho trip Saturday, and picnic point Sunday. Hope to see some of you out there.e

I live in unincorporated Everett, just 1mile East of Mill Creek.
I regularly fish the following local lakes; Storm, Panther, Martha, Lost, Echo, Margarat regularly. In spring, I"m at Margaret most of the time - for obvious reasons. In summer, I go for bass at the other lakes. Sept through Oct 31, I'm back at Margaret for the fall trout bite.
Myself and my two teenage boys had a blast exploring; Kachess, and Crescent ( on the Olymp Penn ). My youngest caught a 1/2-3/4lb Beardslee. What an incredibly beautiful fish!!!...truely blue in color....amazing! Not an easy fish to catch, and that is why we bring him. If nobody can catch it, he will....chuckle...lucky chump.
I used to kayak as a kid on Lake Washington where I grew up. Now, I'm back into it and loving it as much as I did when I was a little whipper-snapper.
-
If anyone is chasing kings next week I would like to meet up.
-
Xtort (Pauly) : I'm in Blue Ridge, and about 5 minutes from West Point. This was my first year fishing from a Yak, and I loved every minute of it. Can't wait to hit the water next year early ( I missed half the season ). Caught 6 good sized Pinks though!

Great to hear of another local kayak fisherman. We'll be putting together some meet-ups for trout in the Seattle area lakes this fall and winter, and some clinics. We'll announcement them on NWKA and the Kayak Fishing Washington links below. Hope to see you out there.

West Seattle here just south of Alki. I fished some in my Outback last summer but I'm definitely in the learning stages. I just got a wetsuit and tried it out on Sammamish this weekend so I feel somewhat confident about going out in cold weather.
Hope to see you out there!

Woo here - from Edmonds. Grew up in Des Moines and fished a lot at the marina before the Pier was built and only caught rocks and bull heads when I was in grade school so I gave up fishing in Puget Sound for a long time. I took up fly fishing in fresh water and got together with some old retired guys to fish at Ross Lake for the last 20 years. Recently moved to Edmonds about 10 years ago and saw people catching fish off the beach at Picnic Point in 2010 and dug out my old saltwater pole and caught 2 and 3 salmon each year off the beach and decided that get better odds if only I could get out further from the beach. That is when I looked into getting a kayak. Did a lot of bicycling so it was natural to purchase a Hobie. Last year I bought a PA 14 from the Seattle Boat Show and caught 24 salmon last season (mostly pinks) and even got some crabs. So I am technically new in Kayak Fishing. Found NWKA by accident and boy what a wealth of information and experience you all have. Been reading all the forum stuff until I got to this topic and so here I am from wonderful Edmonds. Hooked back to saltwater fishing in Puget Sound.
-
Huh, apparently I forgot to post in this thread when I joined up :-/ Anyway, Jim here from Gig Harbor. Grew up in Lynnwood, did a bit of fishing waaaay back then from shore and small boats. Went to Nebraska courtesy of Uncle Sam and flew computers and ended up spending 27 yrs there. Moved back here a few yrs ago and got back out on my beloved salt water... Been out once fishing from my yak (Elie Gulf 120 SOT) but I have spent a pretty good amount of time out just enjoying...
Just being out here again where you can see the rhythm of the earth flowing back & forth is good for the soul... Fresh water just ain't the same!

West Seattle close to Lincoln park area. If anyone wants to go fish on there Yaks for coho this September in the area let me know.
-
I'm ready to hit Lincoln Park with you. Never fished for salmon from Kayak berfore or for any fish yet. Need to learn quickly for the Coho Classic. If my vacation is approved for this Thursday and Friday I plan on practicing a lot somewhere between Alki and Seahurst Park which re-opens this Monday. This while my wife is in Utah for a few days. Don't want to waste this quality time alone.
-
Awesome! Would be happy to go out with you and share some knowledge. Let me know if you're approved for some time off, we could plan an early morning rendezvous or an evening trip after 5 pm. Feel free to PM me.
Take care

Bothell/Mill Creek. Looking to start my fishing hobby on Lake Washington before heading out into salt water. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to fishing so if anyone wants to do some mentoring I'm in.

New guy to the kayak long time pb fisherman, starting out slow hope to be grabbing on PS in the future
-
Hello! Am new to kayaks but am comfortable around water, fishing, diving and racing. My first job was at an east coast marina.
Have finally rigged a Jackson Big Tuna to my liking and need to stick to lakes until I'm comfortable on the boat and have it all sorted. But it won't take too many trips until the exploration bug bites.
The boat's only been wet once on a windy day, so no fish tales to tell yet. Learning to find the fish is the next big challenge...
-
Welcome to the club,
Every season I start out at local lakes just to get familiar with my yak again. I then go out to PS where there is the challanges of the tides, currents, wind, waves, ferry/boats, sea lions, but that also comes with all kinds of salmon, bottom fish, crabs, fish derby, and other kayakers. Be safe and will see you out there. Read up here and get lots of ideas, pointers, and safety tips.
-
Welcome guys!

I'm up in Mill Creek 30 minutes (with no traffic) North of Seattle.

Bit late.. ok, really late but I am newer.. I live downtown Seattle...

Is there any interest in say a Thursday evening meet-up in Juanuary at a local brewery?
Seapine just south of the Stadiums? I'm open to other places as well...

Because of the recent replies on this thread I thought I'd mention I'm in Bellevue, just across Lake Washington from Seattle.

New from the Bainbridge/Poulsbo area... looking to work my way up to PS, starting on the lakes!
-
I am in Bothell area. Just install a trolling motor on my predator 13. I know i am not that old but not that strong either, has a hard time paddling back to dock against strong current in Shilhole bay last year. Working on a leading gear design similar to Boomer landing gear, not because of price. I like to work on something like this in stead pay for it, make you feel good when you are done with the project.
-
I'm in West Seattle
-
I'm in Kent.
Well, this thread has been around for a long time, There's been mention of this for a while, and it seems like we just need a first date to get started. I'm going to head to the Northwest Brewery net Tuesday (5-23-17)at 7 PM. Not bringing the boat but just having a beer or two and happy to chat. Might bring the owners manual for a Lowrance Mark-4 HDI & Elite-4 HDI.
If anyone would like to come, it's at:
Northwest Brewery
1091 Valentine Ave SE,
Pacific, WA 98047
Maybe another month further north, I just like Hoppy Bitch IPA as a place to start.
-
Just checking in to see if anyone in the south-of-Seattle area is interested in a informal meetup at Northwest the evening of Tuesday 23rd toward 7ish?
If there aren't any takers, maybe move it up to Seapine Brewery just south of the stadiums at the same time? Seapine 2959 Utah Ave S, Seattle, WA 98134
No affiliation with either breweries, just like their products.
-
Doesn't seem to be much interest for tonight, I'll watch to see if there are any responses. If not, I'll try to move a GTG toward Seattle, maybe at Seapine brewery in a week or so...
-
I would like too, but made plans for tonight. Let me know if you reschedule, and I'll try to make it

Hey all, new guy to washington here. Located in Kirkland. About to buy a Talon 120 from Dicks. Kind of a downgrade as I had a Hobie Pro Angler/Tident/Cuda14 before. Just moved to wa and in an apartment now so downgrading. If anyone is out fishing I would love to tag along and see whats out here. Thanks

The not-so-greater area of Tacoma here..... :police:

Adding myself to the list! I'm located in Seattle.

Just to make sure everyone knows, the one in the Auburn/sumner area GTG a few weeks ago was a bust.
Recent Topic GTG 6-26-17 North Seattle provides the information for the GTG 6-26-17 at 7:30 t Hellbent brewery on lake city way in north Seattle
Happy to have another down south if someone wants to toss out some dates. Just didn't want you drinking alone and telling fish stories to yourself.

Welcome Quadfather. Good to see you ditch the boat for a kayak. :)
-
Planning ahead is a challenge for me right now, but I'm hoping to make a run to the Green Can Saturday (would have to be leaving the launch by 2 PM), and with luck Sunday and catch the noonish tide flows. It's possible I could try a Saturday low, but it's early and short. WorkHard has posted some great info on it and it's a good place to get into the salt for a short run. No downrigger adventures this time, just hard jig fishing for me.
-
Haven't been any replies to this sticky in awhile but what the heck...
I'm up in Shoreline right on tiny Echo Lake. The drive to Richmond Beach takes me only about 10-15 minutes. My Pescador Pilot won't arrive for another 10 days but if anyone wants to hook up around the end of the month, I'm down :D
I'm really interested where the best access is for Richmond Beach too. The saltwater park has too many stairs to go up and down.
-
There are no stairs from parking to sand at Richmond Beach Park. It's all ramped.
-
Man the Seattle crew has been quiet. Where's everyone at? Am I late to the party?
Anyone got any bright ideas on a kayak storage location for a city dweller? Perhaps one of you lucky yard-having folks are interested in a financial arrangement where a handsome, charming young man pays for some shed/garage/yard space?
-
Yeah, I just joined and it seems pretty quiet!
-
Yeah, I just joined and it seems pretty quiet!
Burritoman, lets go fishing! I'm all geared up and finally ready to rock
-
Down any time! I've been fishing bass/perch in Lake WA all summer but just got my Yakima EasyRider trailer rigged up to haul my Hobie Outback around so happy to hit the road and fish just about anywhere.
-
Can I play? I live in SE Everett. Available most weekends. I’m new to fishing from a kayak but I’m super excited to catch fish.
-
I keep my kayak at the north end of lake WA but have yet to fish it.
Not sure if I'll be able to given the fires, but I was hoping to drive down and fish the Columbia near the lewis river this weekend. Either that or I'll fish locally out of Shilsole. Company always welcome send me a PM if you want to fish!
-
I'm hoping to hit Shilshole early tomorrow morning. Yellow Revo 13 with a big downrigger on starboard side midship.
Ideally will keep fishing until I limit out (lol) or ~11:00, but if it's as smoky as forecasted I might make a short day of it, or not go out at all.
-
I may also be or not be there dependent on the smoke factor.
-
I may also be or not be there dependent on the smoke factor.
Given your former alias I'd think you'd be right at home ;)

Gonna sit this weekend out because of the smoke levels. Hope these fires end soon.

Me too. MD girlfriend put the fear of god into me. Figure I'll work this weekend and take some time off in the middle of next week.
Take the time off to soup up your ride. Outdoor Emporium seems to have a good number of Scotty brand mounts - I was over there last week looking for stuff to put a DR on my Revo 13.
-
I sat out the weekend as well. Felt like an early quarantine weekend in terms of restlessness. Will probably give it a shot tomorrow or Wednesday after work out of Shilsole.
-
I fished Friday/Sat on the Duwamsh. Got a few Coho. Smoke was bad Saturday and wore an N95 mask most of the time. Hoping the smoke clears by Wednesday for Lake WA!
