I'm fishing for flatfish with the others in Steilacoom on Sunday.
I don't need a freezer full of em however.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any place within an hour or so of Tacoma, I might stand a decent chance of catching  any sort of salmon? Would really  like to get a sockeye or chum.
Thanks in advance!

A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

I don"t think there is any sockeye in the area and it is too early for chum but your are in the right area for the chinook going to the Nisqually or further to the Deschutes. We used to have success at this time between Ketron island and tsolo point.

Point Defiance comes to mind but MA11 is only open Wednesdays through Saturdays. You could bail on Steilacoom and fish the Nisqually delta for Starry Flounder & jig for Chinook right off the shelf. Or just jig for Chinook after Steilacoom.

Nisqually Delta Starry Flounder:

Edit: I just realized Steilacoom is south sound... Looks like it's just south of Chambers Creek. Google that, there's some info online. Never been there tho.

Dash point pier is a great spot to launch from. Especially since pier is closed
