We have 10 people signed on so far for AOTY 2023. Fish entries are picking up and it's becoming competitive. If you need a little motivation to go out and start fishing, you're already 6 fish and 860 points behind kemfish.;)
Need more motivation? Check out Nobaddays all time species leading bull char! Congratulations.
Have a great year everyone and bring your A game. I think competition will be fierce. I'm off to register and start trying to catch up.
-
I think that bull trout could've eaten all my fish except the bass. It kind of looks like it may have a couple 150 point Kokanee in it.
-

Thanks, it was really fun to catch. My previous biggest was 27” so it way exceeded that. I’m really glad I had Oneflyguy with me to take the photo. Otherwise I don’t know how I would have managed.
-
I'm surprised there are any Kokes left in the lake. Thanks to OFG for taking the shot....time for a new picture of the month?
-
Very impressive. Looks like you guys had a wonderful day. It's blowing hard and snowing out here now, so you struck when the iron was hot, as they say!
-
time for a new picture of the month?
Great suggestion! Done.
-
Awesome fish! It’s a bummer they don’t fight 😉
-
Congrats to SD2OR for being the first to ten fish. Good luck with the upgrades.
-
Thank you sir!
The first ten came pretty easy, glad I still have abundant time to try for super fish, like the brown I got last year.
-
10 fish with a 150+ point average in March is probably some kind of record - great work!
-
Kemfish posted a beautiful striped surfperch. Great colors. If it had an intact tail it would have probably been the longest AOTY striped.
-
The striped perch have been good to me this winter. Salt overall has been more productive when accessible. Fresh water has been a fish here and a fish there. Some nice ones, but not as much consistency. We need a couple weeks of warm weather. Can’t imagine when the mountain lakes are going to become accessible with all the snow. I was looked at the traffic cams the other day for road conditions and the willamette pass tunnel on the way to O’dell and Crescent had snow drifts across it.
-
Hey everyone,
Just throwing it out there. there are only 14 people signed up for AOTY and I have over $2500 in prizes. With more prizes to come. Seems like a pretty nice pay out to make a $50 donation to an amazing organization like Heroes on the Water!
SO..... make your donation and get signed up! Please!!
-
Might consider sharing the event and the NWKA group on some of the other platforms such as “Kayak fishing addicts NW” on Facebook. You might get some more attention there as well. most of the OG guys know of NWKA but there are a lot of anglers out there that don’t.

I would like to propose pike minnow be added to this years species at 8.5 points per inch

Monster! Nice fish!
I've toyed with the idea of sponsoring a "rough fish challenge" for the last few years but I've never made it happen. It would be fun to target some of the neglected species in the area.
-
As I was floating around today not catching much I had the thought of a potential additional leaderboard. Have one that would be for like the top 10 or 15 top point fishes that way it would be easy to see all the big girls/boys that have been brought in. Now the list would be nothing but fish caught by Nobaddays, basinKayakGuy and JED, but at least the rest of us could see what 220 point fish look like.
No idea what adding a leaderboard entails, but that's my "no fish biting" thought of the day

Love the idea. I know bsteves (who maintains the software) has had a few ideas in the same vein.
-
the GOAT board is an awesome idea... but I never can seem to get it to work right.
I think some of the beauty of this competition is its variance though. It has definitely forced me to different fisheries and different methods out of my normal comfort zone. I will say that there is some serious dedication to driving etc to compete in this when you are on the edge of the boundary (klamath is 10 miles from the california border). I just was unlucky enough to really try and send it when Jed and Casey were rolling. lol, just gotta raise these kids and give it another go at some point.
-
IIRC, the GOAT board points totals and standings are correct, it's just the specific fish it lists are wonky.

-
Could a GOAT tab be added under the AOTY leader board tab?
-
I like that idea but I'd like it if the results were a little more polished first - like I said above, it has some issues, although I believe the overall scores are correct.
In any case, that's more or less up to bsteves, so I'll defer to him.

Hi everyone. I just finished scoring a bunch of fish and want to say "nice job" on the photos. It was a breeze to score them and only took a few minutes. I like it.
Great fish coming in. The next few months should be competitive. Congrats to NBD on taking the lead.....for now.

Anyone else unable to access the aoty page? Mine has given me a 404 error for a week now.
-
No, I have not had any issues watching my pathetic score drop lower and lower.......
-
No problems here

Every so often it won't show up if you're trying for a secure (https) connection, but works fine if you use standard non-secure (http) connection.
This url is working fine right now: http://aoty.northwestkayakanglers.com/ (http://aoty.northwestkayakanglers.com/)

Must just be my phone. I'll figure it out. Thanks

Congratulations to James for joining the 2K club. Nice Cabbie.

Hear hear! That's rarified air! Congrats, and it's only October... what else does he have up his sleeve?

Nice work James, congrats. Still lots of time to hit 2100😉
-
Nice flex.
-
Congratulations to James for joining the 2K club.
Thanks everyone. It has been a fun year. Breaking 2000 has been a goal for a long time. Getting a couple good fish early in the year definitely made the possibility more real.
-
it's been interesting seeing everyone duking it out for the top spots this year and it's still October. Congrats to all those folks still out there trying.
Is it just me or the site that says "site can't be reached " when I try to see the AOTY standings?

Not just you. It was working fine yesterday.

Not just you-it happened to me too. I just checked and it seems to be back up
-
Now its back down again for me
Here is the error message
"Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."
-
There is something amiss with the secure socket connection for AOTY. My main browser converts all URL's to a secure connection (https://) and that isn't working. Same 404 error, etcetera, others are seeing.
My other browser will allow nonsecure connections (http://) and AOTY shows up side-by-side with the browser that's showing a 404 error.
Hope that helps whoever has to debug this.
-
I was having no problems accessing it when you guys made the last few posts, but can't get it to pull up now
-
It worked for me for several days but now I can't see it again.
-
Yeah, still nothing
-
Yeah, still nothing
My AOTY thread had been working all week.

AOTY, works on my phone. On the PC it give me the error message others are receiving.

I still can't access it, starting to bum me out.

Same. Fortunately I don't have any fish to post. ;D
-

Don't know what to say, folks. I cannot reach it using the Brave browser set to only open secure sites, but I can reach it using Chrome or Safari without requiring a secure connection. If what you see in the address bar is "https://aoty.northwestkayakanglers.com/" it returns a 404 error, but if what you see is "http://aoty.northwestkayakanglers.com/" it shows up for me.
Perhaps I'm special. YEA, me!
-
I may actually need to post a fish one of these days. Guess I'll have to find someone with a phone or PC that can access the page.
-
I've had a few people ping me about lingering issues. Unfortunately, I don't have any control over any of that, and I'm not sure what to say. Hopefully they work themselves out. AOTY and NWKA are both working well for the majority of people now. Feel free to reach out to me if you're having problems, but I may not be able to do anything about it.
-
Wasn't working for me for a long time. I installed a different browser (called duckduckgo) and it works. It also worked on the Samsung internet browser, but it wouldn't let me upload pictures. Still doesn't work on Chrome or firefox.
-
if you update the link from https to http it works. Just need to update the link. Once that happens it works in Chrome.

I figured out the same yesterday. I'm guessing it might have something to do with this..."Google Chrome now auto-upgrades to secure connections for all users".
https://github.com/dadrian/https-upgrade/blob/main/explainer.md (https://github.com/dadrian/https-upgrade/blob/main/explainer.md)
Seems like it might be an easy fix for the NWKA IT talented. How hard would it be to change the AOTY address from http to https?
-
What link are we talking about? The link in the NWKA page header is already "http".
-

Thats odd when i click the link at the top of the page (in between 'Forum' and 'Search'), it sends me to an https link
-
I tried it and it still doesn't work for me with Chrome. Even when I type in the address with a http. The links show http but when I click them it shows https in the address bar. If I delete the s, it still doesn't work.
-

The AOTY link is a "http". Chrome is changing it automatically to a https because of the google update (link above), causing a 404 error for me. If someone could change the AOTY link to a "https", I'm guessing it would work for everyone.
I'm way out of my element here.

This, combined with Zach's info above, are starting to make sense. I don't think AOTY is set up to work with SSL (HTTPS) and I think the browser update (which I do not have) is trying to force the link (which, in the page code is HTTP, not HTTPS) to be HTTPS, hence the problem.
I'll send this on to bsteves. Thanks for the info.
-
Just a quick update: I confirmed on another system that if you manually prefix the link with "HTTP" in the address bar it works fine, even with the update. And, again, the link itself is encoded as HTTP, it's just the browser that is trying to force it to HTTPS.
-
This is what comes up when I hit the AOTY Option at the top of page from my desk top.

For the last couple days on my Phone and desktop, both the NWKA and AOTY addresses will occasionally link to the screen shot Jed took.
-
Opposite for me. Can't access either page on my phone, no matter what I do, but can access both on my old PC, with some fiddling.
-
I take it the glitch can't be fixed and we are on our own. Who is in the lead? I see a lot fish posted on Facebook the last two months.
-
Ranking last I looked
NoBadDays
Kemfish
SD2OR
Merz
Redbeard

Thanks, Cameron.

As a last resort you can try downloading a different browser. That is still the only thing that works for me. I use "duckduckgo". Hasn't worked in Chrome for months.

The friendly folks at Eugene's Oregon Paddle Sports, have just become AOTY's newest sponsor, with their kind donation of a set of car top rail mount pads with straps, a Yak Attack track mount cleat, a nice Plano tacklebox, and a mesh bag.
In the past month or so, they have gone above and beyond, helping me with my drive issues.
They are super professional, know their stuff, and couldn't be any more welcoming.
Check em out for any of your kayak needs!
Thanks guys!
-
Silly me....I forgot we had Edge on our desktop. Works fine, back in business.

Please welcome to our list of sponsors, fishing guide Bob Rees. He runs The Guide's Forecast website, an invaluable resource, conaining reports detailing current fishing conditions, as well as offering many great "how to" webinars.
I've subscribed to The Guides Forecast for a couple years now, and it has helped me quite a bit, to know when, where and how to fish.
Bob is a skilled guide, who works hard to get his clients fish, and couldn't be any nicer. I know, becuase I've been on the water with him.
He has generously donated two 1yr Steelhead level memberships to The Guides Forecast, to this years AOTY.
The Guides Forecast also has free weekly reports. Check em out!
Thanks Bob!
