With limited storage space, larger and heavier kayaks, and too little to do, I decided to spend a couple of days (aka 2 weeks) figuring out a way to store our boats. Commercial haul systems were too lightweight so I came up with my own design and my own components which suited our situation. They seem to be holding so far!

Nicely done!  Isn't it funny how projects drag on soooooo much longer than expected.

Nicely done. I just bought an Old Town PDL 120 and hope to figure out a system in the future.

To avoid warping the hull, shouldn’t they be stored upside down with the straps spanning the squarish portion of the side rails? Just like Dave’s.

I will! Actually, it already happened at about 4 feet off the floor. Stopped my heart. Thank goodness it’s such a solid kayak. Moral - you get what you pay for. Never buy key components at Harbor Freight.

You’re right. I got so focused on the haul system I hadn’t yet considered that. Trying them now upside down and have added ratchet straps to share the load across 4 different straps. Should be good to go now. Thanks for the heads up.

If you have the headroom, the electric Garage Gator has been awesome for me.  Lower it right into the bed of my truck.

That would have been my first choice, but I don’t have the ceilings for that. Awesome setup. I had to go perpendicular to the garage door just to fit them both in.

I have a couple of kayaks I'd like to get up and out of my way - I haven't seen my workbench in ages.  I tried hand pulleys once, but damn, the boats were still heavy.  Could you explain your system a little more, please?

Dave, your Garage Gator system looks to be more simple than those listed on Amazon.com, and I can't see a reason to pay for bits of rigging that I'll never use.  Did yours have a model number or name - and do you remember it?   >:D
Everything will be all right in the end, so if it's not all right, then it's not yet the end.

No pics but my big tuna hung in our shop for almost two years upside down on two 2X2’s with the straps around it like tying it down. Tinker I used 2 deer hanging rigs basically a 4 roller snatch block, my grandson could lift it that way.

I was never so elaborate when hanging deer, so okay, I'll look it up.  Thanks!
