Title: i11s WindPaddle Adventure sail testing

a recent thread at the Hobie forum reminded me that I wanted to try using a sail on my i11s, so while I'm waiting for delivery of my MD180 drive, I did some sailing.

I went with the WindPaddle 47" Adventure sail, about $125 from ACK.  It clips quickly to the existing front rings and worked well enough that it will be riding up there on all my outings from now on.  My testing included 2 days out fishing on CoosBay and it was great resting my legs while moving from where I was to where I wanted to be, plus I caught a few fish both days.... ;D  cheers, roger

Roger, looks like you may need a whisker pole (or two) to hold the sail in place out in front of you.

5mph is really moving for such a small sail.  That's way faster than pedaling.

Way cool! I actually just pick up an I11 this week. Do you have some pics of how you rigged up the FF and rear area?

my recent changes are- deleted the milk crate on the back as not needed and moved the sonar board to right side of the seat and put the battery inside the BlackPak.  (I found that keeping weight off the front reduces spray and hull flex in choppy water.)  There is a foot or so of space between the back of seat and front of BlackPak that is perfect for laying fish on a stringer. 

I'm really happy with the BlackPak, the plastic is thick enough to hold SS screws for non-critical items; I use SS bolts for mission critical mounts.   Tool organizer across the front is a must and the rod mounts coming off each side put the reels right beside me...

back to the i11s, these things really glide on the water...even in really light wind I was seeing 1.5 to 2mph in the rain on Munsel lake...

regarding the WindPaddle sails, there seem to be some cheap knock-offs that are being sold with similar names, like "Wind Paddle" with a space between the words, and the Adventure was updated to 47" and a flatter profile a year or so ago...
