One of the ORC hilights each year is the fantastic post-fishing potluck/taco feed. Let's keep that tradition going! For that, we can use this thread to track who can bring what food. And nearly as importantly, who can do what.
As we will likely have a large group (70+ contestants plus any guests), WE can all make this work as long as everybody chips in with contributions and assists with prep, cooking, AND cleanup...
NOTE: New this year, those bringing food items and/or helping with setup/prep/cook (please sign up by posting and getting on the list below) will be issued meal wristbands - see discussion below. Wristbands can be acquired with $10 donation to HOW PDX. Also, spouses are welcome to get a wristband with potluck donation. Kids eat free.
HINT: If you're not sure what items might be necessary, you can refer to one of Andrew's prior year threads (there are some really great ideas here if you're not sure what you should bring):

One of these years we're going to wise up and get some wristbands for this potluck. I always feel like we could be done with dinner much earlier and we would buy a lot less groceries if we weren't feeding the whole goddamn campground.
-
Chowder, as usual!😋

Sounds like a great idea. Free wristband for those who bring something and we can charge a fee for those who don't. Proceeds can go to HOW PDX. I'll check Amazon for wrist bands.

So, it's not just me that has felt this needed to be a thing.
Thanks Anthony for bringing this to light. :icon_thumright:
Those that plan to say that they prepped fish while standing in line at the potluck, should be on a list for a free wristband prior to prepping fish. It's too easy for 30 people to claim they all prepped fish, if they didn't or only prepped a fish or two. I honestly think 4 people is enough to prep fish for 150+ tacos. Lets get more folks to volunteer in the kitchen for a smooth cooking rotation, so folks can get out, eat and mingle as well.
Fact: Most folks that supply an item to make these potlucks function, spend $15-$100 themselves just to volunteer it away.
So, this spread below should be a reasonable fee if not providing an item or helping with prep/cooking/cleanup.
$10 per person.
$20 per family of 2-3.
$25 per family of 4 or more. (Must provide birth certificates as proof of family status). >:D

Ill be set up at the chinook bend dock around 4pm to fillet fish for the fish fry. Will gladly accept whole fish donations for the fish fry - I'll have some ice/coolers to stage fish if you want to drop off your catch for the fish fry dinner. Last year it worked pretty well to have just enough fish chunked up by the time the fryers were hot. Sounds like maybe 100 people this year, so we are relying on your fish donations to make the fish fry successful. And I'll bring a colossal bag of tater tots.
-
I will be there with Barb filleting fish again this year. I haven't decided what I am bringing for the potluck yet.
-
INSAYN_Jr (Tanner) is signing up to help in the cooking area with frying stuff.
INSAYN will also bring a dozen or more sliced avocados.
-
put me down for cookies and a couple bags of chips/doritos and fritos!
-
Sam - Thanks for stepping up! Wish I could be there.

Thanks - we're going to miss you out there!
-
Will bring a bunch of diced onions, cilantro, and some salsa. Also I'll bring a bottle of brown liquid of the mashed corn or rye variety for the chefs. Looking forward to it this year!
-
If anyone lives in South Salem they should go to cash and carry and speak to my father. 2 years ago I was able to get them to donate a hundred dollar gift card for the Tillamook tournament. His name is Ken. I will not have time to do it this year, but he should be able to get us something for plates and extra stuff.
-
I'm happy to bring something as well, but I'm terrible at potlucks and not sure what else is needed. More sodas? Lots of high fives?

I'm pretty sure tournament organizing is considered volunteering and should get you a wrist band.
-
So I did get some event wrist bands.... we'll be updating the original top post on this thread with details... but basically sign up to bring something or volunteer to do something and get your name on Sam's list. Doing that will get you and your family wrist bands. Otherwise, we'll be selling wrist bands for $10 each with all the proceeds going to Portland chapter of HOW. Kid's eat free.
-
I can pick up corn and flower tortillas for the group. Or if thats spoken for i can bring an alternative. I will also fillet fish if available- the wife may bring the toddler for the event and if she is here i will need to assist entertaining the little one.
Look forward to seeing everyone again this year.

Top post is now updated.
All - With event rapidly approaching, I will attempt to keep the top list as up to date as possible. If you think I've missed your planned donation, you can PM me and I'll get it in there as soon as possible. Anybody wishing to donate, but wanting to maintain their lurker status, feel free to PM me as well! ;D

I can bring a second fryer for the gluten free folks and tater tots. I will bring oil as well. I will help fry stuff. Or, if you guys want, I can dig a couple hundred purple varnish clams and we can steam the graesy bastards. ;D
-
is there someone that is going to be checking in foodstuff`s to get banded and what time should items be checked in by?set up time? what time should peeps be at the group area to eat? any certain times aiming for?

You致e inspired me. I値l bring an extra fryer for people who want extra copious amounts of gluten (like, dangerous amounts). Instead of oil we値l be using straight gluten to fry in. Am I getting the right idea here?
-
I could probably get my wife to make some of her home made salsa, it is pretty amazing! Any other suggestions I can bring?
-
For those looking to provide an item or two for the fish fry/potluck.
Items still needed for the fish tacos:
Fresh lime wedges
Shredded cabbage/lettuce
Shredded cheese
White and red sauce
Salsas
For potluck items:
Any kind of potato. Baked, scalloped, salad, etc.
Asian ramen salad
Pasta salad
Green salad + dressings
Bbq chicken
Bbq pork
Bbq beef
Grilled hotdogs/brats + buns
Use your imagination.
-
I have way too much Napa cabbage. I知 going to make a bunch of kimchi and I can bring the other giant head of cabbage to shred fresh for the fish tacos.

Sounds like you've got it! Another fryer (or two) would be good - I think we've had 3+ going in the past just to keep up with the fish. With a couple folks donating tots, we may need another.

I've not seen any specific times posted/mentioned. I believe that the tournament weigh-in ends at 2:30 - it will likely take a couple hours for everybody to get back to camp, put fishing gear away, and get ready - and Barb has volunteered to be at the fish station at Chinook Bend about 4:00. I'd expect setup and cooking to start a bit after that.
For potluck contributions and wrist-banding, I'd hate to step on the toes of those with the great ideas above - perhaps Anthony and Craig/INSAYN can get the process going once setup has started!?!?!

Be sure to accidentally leave a jar or two of that kimchi at my camp.
-
INSAYN where do you find the gluten free Pride of the West? Eastern Oregon is full gluten go. I'll be checking stores on my way down.

Disregard this, I found the one box out here.

Oh man, I was being super sarcastic. I don't even own a fryer. Anybody got a fryer I can borrow?
On a serious note, I will bring some cheese, limes, and other miscellaneous things that go well on tacos.

No worries - I caught the sarcasm, was just hoping that it might spur some folks that have a fryer to offer up here. :) And the taco condiments will be a great addition!

Thanks Craig! In addition, looking back at prior years, some more items that we'll likely and/or definitely need:
chefs/prep knifes
large electric roaster (warmer) pans
salad tongs
cutting boards
thermometers for oil temp
trays
mixing bowls
paper plates
napkins
paper towels

I can bring a fryer, pot, thermometer, and propane tank.
I will also bring some knives for prep work.

I cheaped out on the avocados and got 7 big ones rather than 12ish or more. Those things are spendy!!
Actually, I ran out of packing room so these will have to do unless someone thinks we need more for some reason?
-
I am bringing chili to the potluck

The chafing dishes should work great for keeping fish/tortillas warm. Thanks Anthony!
-
I can bring shredded cheese, unless someone else already plans to. How many pounds? I can also help fillet and cut up fish if I can talk myself into not heading back out for salmon after checking back in. Maybe there will be time for both🤷♂️
-
I'll bring some Kalua (smoked pulled pork) for those who want something besides fish.

-
I値l bring a large scallop potatoes dish
-
Thanks for all of the contributions folks - obviously not many volunteers yet. Please jump in an help with setup and cooking duties so that we can all enjoy the evening! Also, plan on everybody pitching in with cleanup once the feast is over. I believe that the plan will be to start the tournament awards once the potluck has been cleaned.
I will be heading to the coast here shortly, so will be mostly offline through the weekend. If you're still planning to bring a food item, please do continue replying to this thread.
See you all there!
-Sam
-
I'll help filet fish also.
-
Looks like we still need some sides. I will also make a big batch of ramen slaw.
-
Several bottles of Sarayo sauce and also sriracha and maybe a tabasco.
-
I'm bringing a watermelon.
-
I will bring some salads.
-
I will bring drinks and cups.
