While fishing out on American lake yesterday a particularly feisty Bow decided to give me a nice gut check.  While superficial and not terribly excruciating I was still presented with the issue of removing it from my hand.  While I might be a little melodramatic in saying so, all I could hear in my head was that line from Deliverance, "now...you play... The game."  As I've never been issued such a problem before it ended up being good training for any future incidents.  First I had to push the barb all the way back trough the skin,  it was super tender so I ended up plunging my hand into the lake until it went numb, once I couldn't feel it I pushed it the rest of the way through.  Then I clipped off the barb with my pliers and slid it out.  Honestly as much as I am around hooks I'm surprised it hadn't happened sooner, but all in all it was a bit of a sticky situation to be on by myself miles from my car and close to dark.

Ouch! At least it was on top of your hand. When I was much younger I was fishing alone and got a hook stuck right square in the middle of my back. I had to drive 1.5 hours to get help.
Glad you got it out.

Oh man where, where is that post from last year.....the dude deliberately hooking himself to demonstrate the method you just described? I'll see if I can find it.  Like my friend topwaters says, treble hooks are mostly for hooking yourself.

Ouch!...too bad you can't get AOTY points for a catch like that!  Most importantly, did you get land the feisty Bow??

Thought I saw you launch yesterday...I was trolling south along the far shore near the VA hospital and saw your yellow boat heading North.

Aint that the truth!

Ohbryant that was a sick video, that man is harder than woodpecker lips.  and yea Nangusdog I got him,  I was grabbing the lure to get better control and it starting flipping and kicking and set it into my hand, then continued flopping around while I tried to unhook him.   did you do any good over there?  it was rough fishing for me until i went all the way to the north east end, over there I was in them deep, hooked allot and landed a nice limit. The water temp was higher over there, i think what happened was the couple nice days we had last week warmed the surface water up, then the wind started blowing all the top water over to that end and started the spring turnover,  they just stocked it so all those fish headed over there plus most of the rest of the lake.  Had a nice Koke on too until it did some acrobatics off the hook.

It was slow but I managed to boat two fish and lose twice that many...I was soaked and near frozen but it was better than staying home
